just wondering what kind of problems i might run into trying to swap a '93 5.2 magnum motor into the '75 powerwagon i'm buying. i can physically get the motor in it no problem, just the wiring/fuel injection to get it running properly. the truck has a 318/727/203 combo. the donor '93 van has a 5.2/A518(2wd). i plan on using the 93 harness(maybe all of the harness) and not sure about vehicle speed sensors and how to install the harness properly. projects always start out with a simple plan, but i've never messed with any of this before. any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks:D

[Here's what I found:

Notch in bellhousing or AT case for crankshaft position sensor. Need to use Magnum style flex plate/flywheel (so crank position sensor has something to read).

Electric fuel pump - presure and volume specs not given. There are two versions of the Magnum fuel injection system - early systems have a fuel return line to the tank, while later ones do not. With a '93 donor I'd bet you've got a return line.

Oxygen sensor in the exhaust. (I did this to my carbed 318 just to help set up the Qjet for altitude - ground a spark plug "non-fouler" and used generic O2 sensor from AutoZone, like $25). He suggests putting it in the balance tube; and it should be ahead of the cats (if any).

Wiring harness and PCM. Earlier is easier (again your '93 is looking like a damn fine choice). Avoid '96-'97 up units with OBD-2.

"By the mid-1990's the hydraulic governor in the transmissions of nearly all Dodge and Jeep trucks had been replaced by an output shaft speed sensor and a governor pressure solenoid in the valve body. The PCM cycles the governor pressure solenoid bades on information it receives from the output shaft speed sensor. For fewer headaches you should avoid this system...."

I'm still looking for more detailed info; this is pretty sparse on specific information. This is from Frank Adkins, "How to build High Performance Chrysler Engines" SA Books. It's very general, and probably should have been titled "History of Chrysler Engines" because the performance part really isn't there; it does make interesting reading - but unfortunately for your purpose not a lot more info than I just summarized. Got that one from Summit; you could also hit Amazon, or probably even a local bookstore. It has an LA on the cover with a set of silvery thermal-coated headers, Al heads, and a Demon carb. The Mopar Performance book on LA engines has nothing of use for a Magnum swap into an older vehicle, and someone gave me a copy of something like "How to rebuild smallblock Mopar Engines" (copyright date in the '80s so no info on Magnums there) and the other one was a strike also.

Forgot to mention that the notch for the crank position sensor is directly behind the pass. side cylinder head.
When the next bundle shows up today or tomorrow I'll check through those and let you know what I find. Besides the Mopar Performance book on Magnum engines I'd also suggest something like a Chilton's that covers the year of your donor.
