Can I use any gm v-6 flywheel for my 97 vortec v-6 engine? Like maybe a mid-80's carbed or a tbi flywheel?

it should work if the fly is from the same type motor I.E. internally or externally balanced, and the bolt pattern and tooth count match.

I doubt the older, non-vortec flywheel will bolt up. You'll have to try and see it for yourself. On my 350 application, I had a flywheel from a 74, and it would not bolt up to my 88 TBI block. In 86, they went to 1 piece rear main seal, and also changed the bolt pattern on the crank, but I can only say that is true for the V8's, cause that's all I know. V6's may not have conformed to the same change....

Let us know though..

even if it bolts up I believe the balance is different..I went to get a new crank for my 95 4.3 and their are two different balances for that year and their is another balance for earlier engines.. You may have to have the crank casting number to get the proper balance..
