Looking at the Dodge with a 6 Speed. Anybody own one? Are they better than the 5 speed enough to warrant the extra money? That extra 45lb of torque is very inticing. <IMG SRC="smilies/blush2.gif" border="0">

My '01 3500 4x is awesome. I love it. My only complaint is that it needs more. With 8K lbs. of dirt in the back, it's a little slow!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

But I can hook up my 8K lb cruiser/trailer combo behind it, set the cruise at 60 in 6th and Pull hgwy 50 all the way to Icehouse without any issues.

If your buying a stick, do the 6 speed and you won't regret it.

That is what I thought. My 98 7.4 Vortec is acting stupid and 600 bucks later still failed emissions so it is time for it to go. Got to have something to get over Vail pass to get the K-5 to Moab.

I love my 98 3500 4x4. I pull my jeep on a heavy flatbed and pop the sucker on cruise and sit back, relax, sleep and watch tv...ok...I just relax, but the Dodge is a work horse...love it. You also won't have to worry about people parking next to you in a parking lot <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Here's what little (VERY little) I know about recent Cummins. Buddy of mine has a 2000 with the 5-speed. He recently towed another guy's 36' race-car trailer with a CJ7 inside. Told me that he had to stay at 80MPH to keep from losing speed on hills. He has 3.54's & 265/75R16's. Said he thought 4.10's would be too much, but that something like 3.73's would put the engine right in the sweet spot at a slightly lower speed. Or MAYBE 3.54's with the HO would be the way to go?????

Oooooo, just thought of a little dig for ya. In Missouri, trucks of 8,501 GVWR & higher are emmissions exempt - even in St. Louis. Too bad same doesn't apply in CO.

Oh yeah! I have a 2000 with the 6 spd. I've done the chip and 4 inch exhaust.
The trip back from the clean up. Set the cruise at 75 in 6th and hauled a$$ gettin 13.5 miles to the gallon. <IMG SRC="smilies/eyemouth.gif" border="0"> I love that truck..

I have the 6 speed and the best thing is the strength of the tranny! It is much stronger than the 5 speed (NV4500) and the extra gear helps with the 6000# load I pull.

I have not gotten mine broken in yet (3K miles) so it is still getting 12-14 mpg with a load, but I hear that will go up and up as the engine gets older.
