: RA or missing link or three link
jam0o0 05-19-2008, 10:02 AM ok well i have three front end design ideas. which ones do yall like? any downsides i haven't thought of? long links are 50 something inches long with the joints. i might be shortening them. link material is 2in OD .25in wall DOM. brackets from balistic, 1x1.25 hiem at the frame end, poly at the axle. angles shown are aproximatly what they will be in the truck
option 1: this is the non adjustable caster Radius arm.

option 2: this is the one sided Radius arm. this side would get a bushing between the two legs. the other side has just one link.

option 3: this is the same as #2 but the lower link is straight. there was a big discussion about lower link strength recently. so this one is stronger under braking but the clearance isn't as good. but the bottom of the link is smooth.

leaning toward #3 or RA what do yall think?
welndmn 05-19-2008, 11:15 AM None, Put a real 3 link in.
BUT, if you want to use radius arms, I vote #3, with the passenger side link on the top only.
PhantomEB 05-19-2008, 12:11 PM Might get slammed for this but.....How does one determine lengths??
Odin K30 05-19-2008, 12:37 PM Dont ask me dude.
Almost everybody hates my setup.:mr-t:
But when has anyone EVER seen a link bend from braking force?
jam0o0 05-22-2008, 06:19 AM phantom: with a RA you want the longest arms possible
my only concern now, with #3 (the one everyone seems to be voting for) and a true 3 link, is the unbalanced reaction some people say it has under hard braking. this truck will have to see some road time to get to some trails. there is no space to make the top link anywhere near the center of the truck. so people with the "one sided RA" who drive on the street: do you have weird/ unstable feelings under braking?

this is why some people make the center link the lower ;)

That is a valid concern.
Which is why I ran an inverted 3 link.:smokin:
wilber 05-22-2008, 07:04 PM any pics of the inverted 3 link?
Odin K30 05-22-2008, 07:23 PM any pics of the inverted 3 link?
Here are a few.
wilber 05-27-2008, 06:09 PM any pics of the frame end mounts?
thanks
Odin K30 05-28-2008, 05:36 PM Sorry to hijack. Here ya go wilber a close up of the frame mounts.
WHITE RHINO 05-28-2008, 07:18 PM why not weld them on seems like a lot of drilling

There is no difference in those 3 setups in terms of controlling axle torque. If you are going to do a 50" long link... just do two fixed arms and it will still have plenty of flex, be twice as strong and handle much better. I have a single fixed radius arm with some serious beef to it and I bent it. I don't street mine... but mine has some weird handling quirks in 2wd at speed. I put up a bunch of pics of mine awhile back in a radius arm thread in this forum... but I'm feeling too lazy to go search for it

interesting...
