First off, does that bug anyone else that 4x4 Chevy's these days are so low to the ground? Bugs me! It seems that the newer models like 99-02 are even lower now than the already too low 88-98's were! They don't even look like 4x4's to me.

Ok, but my real question now! I have a 97 Chevy 4x4 1 ton ext cab dually (which sits higher than 1/2 ton 4x4's) Mine is totally stock. I keep seeing same model dually's that are cal-trans and forestry trucks that are a good 3 inches or so higher than my truck. Any ideas as to whats different about them? They don't have any type of aftermarket lift kits on them either.

Uhh, the tires?

Yes, the new trucks are too low to be of any use. They are really :rainbow:

So, get a 73-87:cool:

They probably get the heavy duty springs, this is an option when ordering, comes with some packages like snow plow prep package and others. Tire size is also an option. Not sure about chevy but dodge uses a different frame for its commercial vhicles.

GM has officially stopped building trucks, that's right, no more Chevy or GMC trucks, period, all they build now are cars, cars like the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, etc. Just big heavy cars with a front drive axle.

Ever see some of the first '88 4x4 trucks? The ones with the HUUUUUGE 4x4 decal that spanned the whole side of the truck? You don't see many of them, kinda like the X81 work truck package, but when those trucks came out, the only way to tell a 4x4 from a 2x4 was the decals, pretty sad, pretty sad indeed.

"They probably get the heavy duty springs"

You do realize that they are IFS right? So I really dont see how they could get anything different from what my 1 ton has.

As for tires, the ones I've seen seem to have the same approx tire size as I do, but with more fender clearance.

Maybe the frames are different with the commercial heavy duty trucks? I don't know, thats why I asked.

That and the 12-13 MPG I get is the only thing I dislike about my new truck.

Well we all know that they do not have Springs, but was there an option for heavier torsion bars, ifso that could be your answer.

Just make sure you order a kidney belt to with the new torsion bars

I think it sucks too, they should also have made the wheel wells bigger so it doesn't require so much hacking to get bigger meats on them. And IFS on a 1ton what were they thinking?
