Whoa, you used the wrong numbers for a Jeep buildup on this board, don't even wisper 44's around here unless you're talking tires, guns, or boobs, the Dana 60 faction will hunt you down and pepper you with broken 297x's.
Anyway, sounds like a good plan, I'm not much of a Ford guy, but I suppose they run OK, if you're going 302, may as well be a FI 302, and you don't need the fancy schmancy Mustang motor either, a buddy of mine just bought (well, I loaned him the money, so I gues I bought) an '87 Crown Vic with a blowed up trans and 15k on the rebuilt motor for $350, no he's got the'puter and spagetti to make that creme puff run in his Bronco II project. The NP435 is cool, not as cool as my SM420, but cool none the less.
The Waggy front is a good choice with a few options on mounting it up, if you outboard the springs it goes super easy, if you're going to narrow it to CJ width and go SOA, you may as well start with a Chevy housing and cut that, or you can find a dodge 44 housing and just cut the long side down to close to Waggy width and use a Scout shaft and end up matching the CJ spring width. Lots of info on here about swapping 5 on 5.5 hubs onto Dana 44 fronts (unless you're cool with a 6-lug Jeep), search and ye shall find.
The rear may be a little more complicated as most waggy rear 44's were either offset, or way offset, with a very few being centered diff, add to that the fact that most were two piece axles, and the few flanged ones would still need to be redrilled to 5 on 5.5 (again, unless you're cool with a 6-lug Jeep), you may be better off with a Scout II 44 rear. Don't bother trying to rebuild the original drums, go disks, it's cheaper anyway.
Good Luck, now go GET IT!

See! It's started already! Duck and cover Dana 44 boy, duck and cover!
I'm just going to go to CTM's in my Dana fofo, cuz I like it, and I don't want to have to buy another OX, or have to wait for the Dana 60 OX.

What about the ford T-18a transmission? Better low gear I think they bolt up also. Not sure though. Oh and screw the 44s get 14 bolt rear and custom make a 70 front. (Just kidding I'm gonna run waggy 44s also).

Better check yo'self, tard! The Ford version of the NP435 has a 6.69 to 1 low and the T-18a only has a 6.32 to 1. This information is concealed in books, technical manuals and catalogs :flipoff2:

also t-18a's are hard as hell to find as they were only used in few jeeps. A t-18 out of a ford pickup would work well if you couldnt find the NP-435
