I've heard that unless you have a huge array of panels, you generally can't keep your batteries charged if you're running high-draw items -- eg. the A/C.
It usually takes generator.
I've heard of low-draw A/C units though, and i'd look really hard at getting one of those instead of a standard roof-mounted one that can kill a battery bank within a few short hours.

Depends what your needs are.
To run our trailer with dual batteries, LED lighting, fridge, inverter etc... 80 watt 5amp panel is what you want. Don't even waste your time with a panel that size unless you plan to daisy chain them together.
Scroll down to the bottom of this link for some good info..

That 15 watt unit is what I have on my truck. I don't use it to extend run time I only use it to keep the batteries fresh when the truck is parked. I tend to be away from home a lot with work and the truck sits when I am gone. I was gone for over 3 months the last time I started the truck and it had been -50 for quite a while of that time. 1 turn of the key and the truck fired right up. It really extends the life of the batteries.
I agree with the 80 Watt panel, this will extend your run time greatly but you will have to conserve what you use and try to run more propane applicances if you can. A propane fridge will really extend your run time.

I have a 5 watt on my flatbed trailer to keep the Optima for my winch and brakes topped off, Its been on there for 5 years, and the battery is always ready. The 15 amp would be cool for Led lighting, and other low draw usage, but you'll still need a generator for A/C etc..
