Tried this on the non-hardcore and got nothing but views......

Looking to up the 13mpg I get with the new 04 TJ... only 16k on the odo.

I got a guy who will pass me on smog anyways.

I've found in previous vehicles a mpg increase and a large hp increase from using a testpipe and intake combo....especially when combined with a ECU remap to match.

Who makes a cheap Test pipe for the TJ I can use.... also what about getting a Check Engine Light, can I use one of those "help" spark plug spacers from autozone to gap it out enough to not throw a CEL?

It's not going to help and you may also lose some low end torque. Change your driving habits for better MPG. You are lucky, my TJ gets 10.

driving habbits can't be improved much, 12.5 is what I got but the books and EPA say 16 averaged between street/highway. It's suposed to get like 18 on freeway! ya right.

You don't figure its gonna help on gas milage? Tq i'm sure i'll loose "some". I'd trade it for 1mpg since I have more tq then I need on stock sized tires.

I wouldn't play around w/the cat, many rumors about improvements when it actually takes away from the performance. We need to know more about what your set up is. I"m running 35's, 4.88's w/an auto LJ. By keeping the tach low, keeping it under 65 on the hwy and watching my take off's i improved 4+mpg.

if i'm reading it right, your getting 12.5 on stock tires?

I really don't think its worth your time if its mileage and performance your after

it's a Jeep. Good mileage ain't gonna happen.

Honestly, how much power does the cat steal?

that is what i love about Jeeps. they are as aerodynamic as a house, yet still get better gas mileage.

Honestly the Cat steals a great deal of power in most vehicles.

Consider the point of aftermarket exhaust is that the flow characteristics are improved over stock by better bends etc..

That said, that's like making the inside of a garden hose smoother to make the water flow better, only to realize that there is a kink in the hose.

Remove the kink...and the flow increases DRAMATICALLY!

I'm a bit of a motor nerd, in my car I suffer 15whp or more the moment I slap the cat on when I'm sitting on the dyno. Bad flow usually = bad gas milage.
