I have a 1984 jeep cherokee 4 door with the 2.8 v-6. I have been looking on line at budget engine swaps. I have been looking at the 3.4 v-6 camero engine and i was hoping anyone out there that has sawpped the 2.8 for something with better power and staying with the carberated set up please let me know. This is my first project and i feel like i picked the wrong year of cherokee. If i can please get some help from anyone because i got a long list of things i want to do (back half, engine swap, lift and bigger tires). PLEASE HELP ME i need pointers and ideas and help!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Chris

As far as an unedumacated guess I'd say keep it simple- Drop in a 350/TH400 w/NP205 or a HO 4.0 with the AW4 on it and the NP231.

get some drivetrain from a early 90's jeep xj or yj. Its a good set up. not expensive. make sure you get the ecu and wiring harness
Or if you can source a 3.4 HO from a mid 90's pontiac would be cool. 225 hp output
always broke yj

Wheel the piss out of it,when it brakes, then upgrade. If your going to replace anyways, drive it like a rental. Or you could just sell it and find one with a 4.0. Cheaper less work intensive IMO. MY.02
