He is/was trying to sell an illegally manufactured/almost complete SMG online. Not too smart. Just having the completed reciever repair section and parts kit is enough to send you to FPMITAP.

So is it someone who doesn't know what they're doing, or is it some sort of setup type thing going on?

I vote for stupidity on the sellers part. I would think a setup would have a low or no reserve to make sure SOMEONE won.

I'm with DRM, what about this makes it illegal? Is it FA or out of compliance with 922(r)?

It's a damn near complete full auto that is not registered, nor built before 1986.
