Presumptuous newby post:

So is this gonna work?

The main plus is it's adjustable if I increase lift or raise the xfer case.

The main negative is I've seen 3/4" Heims break in a traction bar, but that was behind a v8 Cruiser. (Mine's a 4cyl. YJ, 100:1, 35" tires)

Sorry for the big image, can't resize here at work.

Yea it will work, but instead of running the him in the middle, I would get rid of that, and weld the two bars togetehr. I did that on mine, both ways, works WAY better welded together.

OK, thanks for the input.
Is it still pretty adjustable without the middle Heim?
Did the middle joint cause too much deflection/slop yoiu think, or did it break?

I think it'll work just fine as-is, but like Flatty said, just weld the two bars together--then put a brace or two between the two, near the rear.

One reason for that, is so you don't have to spend the money on yet another heim joint.

One other option, is to use bushings at the axle connections, rather than heims--the little bit of "cushion" is nice, won't allow too much slop for axle wrap, and are cheaper. The down side is that you'd lose your easy adjustablity, but you could always weld a bolt to the bushing sleeve, or just use one bushing and one heim.

Food for thought!

Hey, I like the weld-bolt-to-bushing idea, embarassed I didn't think of it. I've gotta improve my skills, tho, my %$$#@y beads wouldn't take that amount of stress.

throw a little "v" of tubing from top to bottom bar to spread loads and your in there

THe Hiem attached to the shackle will be under the most stress. when you set it up, bottom that heim out in its threads, it will strengthen it quite a bit.
That is the same way that Flatty broke his.(if i remember correctly)he has the same design.

its not the best pic, but its got bushings on the axle end and heims on the other, welded tubes, just squint your eyes

I run shock eye bushings on the axle end and a heim on the pivot end. Works nice. You could easily use a heim on the axle ends as well. My first design did not have the vertical brace and bent...this design has been tweaked slightly and could really use a second vertical brace.

Also, while your design seems to spread the lower bar forward link fairly well, this point needs to be as close to the shackle as possible. The torque from the axle is greatest thru the lower bar, rotating it up, and if it's mount is not properly distributed across the top bar, it will bend.

BTDT....hence the V bar shapes and not a Y bar shape.

still not a fan of gettin fancy - haven't seen the need. Mine is a single bar with hymes on both ends - but it works

I did not break it at the heim, I broke the tube itself. that is what happens when you get it. I decided next time to go more HEAVY DUTY!!!!

I just built this one, last week, so that the 8.8 could make one more trip to the Hammers (I destroyed my Ford radius version of a trac bar on Fordyce a few weeks ago).
The design does not have any provisions fro adjustability, but the goofy shackle in front allows for side to side tilt of the axle, and the arch of the spring travle. It is very stout, kept the traction to the wheels, and held up well at the Hammers last weekend. Too bad I have to do it all over again in a week or so with new axle swap.
