I may have a line on a dana 60 rearend with 1.56" ID spindles. It currently has 30 spliners in it.
Do I only have to have to put in new 35 spline side gears and 35 spline axle shafts?
Or...do I have to get a different carrier and carrier bearings also?
Also, is the axle flange bolt pattern and axle shaft length the same on a 30 spline 60 as on a 70 or 14 bolt?
If not then I'll probably have to have custom axle shafts made ($300

I know there are at least 2 different flange patterns for 60's. I have one with 6 bolts under my scout, and I've seen ones with 8 bolts. I believe 14-bolts are also 8 bolt, but I don't know if it is the same.
You should only have to change the spider gears to swap from 30 spline to 35 spline.

Thanks Ben,
Now I'm hoping to find out if I can just replace the axle shafts with ones out of a D70 or 14 bolt. That would be alot cheaper than new axle shafts.
The 14 bolt and the D60/70 have different bolt patterns for the axle flanges.

Dana 70 shafts would be too short.
Assuming the Dana 60 and Dana 70 have the same track-width from the same/similar rig, the Dana 70 has a larger diameter differential, so for the same WMS to WMS, the axle shafts would be a little shorter.
If you take a semi-float Dana 44 rear end, and put a Dana 60 center section in it, and do nothing else, the track width grows by an inch or so using the same 30sp '44 axle shafts because of the larger 60 diff.

I thought I could do the same thing - just
pick a D70 shaft that's the correct length.
Nope, different bolt patterns at the hub end.
About all the one's I've seen at the yards, you cannot respline due to the splines being
a larger diameter than the shaft. Moser

Dammit Jim! (best Captain Kirk voice)
Thanks for the input guys.
I'll have to decide whether I want to mess with a full floater drum brake or go with a semi floater (35 spline) or ...or...
Sixgun,
These things just keep showing up. I can't help but check em out.

What is the bolt pattern and length needed? I have a few 35 spline Ford 10.25 axleshafts I could measure.

Thanks guys. I decided to pass on it at this time.
He will be posting them in the POR for sale section pretty soon so keep on the lookout.
Sorry, I don't have any measurements on bolt patterns or axles length.
