: Rocky road Coil kit
grasshopper 07-19-2002, 02:02 PM Ok here's the deal at zookimelt this year I won the Rocky road Coil kit. Now I'm trying to decide what the hell to do with it. Before I won the kit I had made up my mind that I was going to Dana 44's, now I really don't know what to do. I still would like the extra width of the Dana's and I want to extend my wheelbase into the 90-95" range. So has anyone done this with the coil kit how much of a pain is it? The kit from what I've seen of it looks fairly stout. So is the coil worth the time or what? Or should I sell the damn thing buy a welder and make my own?
BTW I currently have a homebrew coil in the rear and I love the way it flexes. (albeit it isn't a flex monster) 800 on a 30 degree with missing link on stock spua springs up front.

0ILBURNER 07-19-2002, 02:45 PM IT'S YOU, GRASSHOPPAH-NEWBIE :D
I can't believe you won that kit!
Your rig works pretty well as-is. Mayhaps you should build another one, this one a "full-grown" version?
You could call it the 'Mantis' or the 'Walking Stick' or something ;)
'Course, you could always sell the kit.............
nuttzack 07-19-2002, 02:48 PM sell it and build your own
Rockrat 07-19-2002, 02:54 PM Ya thats it Ill trade ya the 100 gift certificate that I won for it Im sure I could make it work with the toy axles by the way nice win
if I would have bought 1 more ticket that morning
Shrock 07-19-2002, 03:59 PM Hey RockRat,
Did you win the one I donated?
Rocky Road 07-19-2002, 05:47 PM You can actually use the kit on D44 axles. I use the same setup on my Sidekick with D44 axles. The only difference will be the center mount bracket for the rear axle as it is currently shaped for a Zuk axle. Just pick up a piece of 2x4x3/16 tube about 16" long and cut your own piece to mold to the D44 axle.
The fornt control arm mounts are indexed and keyed to fit the stock axle and springs pads to automatically align. You'lust have to use an angle finder to index your castor up front.
If you have any questions on the setup, don't hesitate to drop us a line.
Congrats on the win! There were lots of guys there that would love to have been in the winner's circle with that one.

full grown version guys in my club have been telling me that for a while of course they mean a TJ yuck, puke, vomit.
As a side note Glenn how was Ceder Point, how did it compare to coaster parks out west. I am kind of a coaster junkie and was thinking of hitting a couple of parks when I finally make it out west to do a little wheeling.

Rocky Road 07-22-2002, 06:59 AM Millenium Force at Cedar Point was the best coaster we've been on. We've traveled all over the U.S. ticking the best coasters in the country. MF has been the best so far, by far.
However, Magic Mtn in CA is a better park (as a whole) than Cedar Point. Don't know why CP keeps getting ranked top park in the world year after year.
My kid and I had a great time though!!!
