Did my rear SOA and Ford 8.8 Swap today and all went well and pretty easy.

Hardest part was the Tcase causethe one i installed the SYE into (installed it into a spare 21 spline Tcase to limit downtime)wasnt the exact same and had no provisions for the Vacuum thing. But it bolted right in and seems fine. I Jerry rigged a vacuum switch for now until i get the cable setup. Any idea what Tcase this is??

The one thing i didnt know and messed up on was not draining the oil from the tranny too and when i pulled the NP231 off the tranny i got a big stinky surprise. YUCK. Now i know!

Anyway, i am done but cant drive it cause the driveshaft is 2 1/2" too short!! ARGGGGG.

if you read my link, you would see i used the 6 leaf HD JC Whitney springs

A guess on the transfer case is that it came from an XJ. Not sure of the spine count on those that didn't have the disconnect front axle though.

ok, its a 21 spline and is 100% identical except for this vacuum thing

They removed the vacuum provision in the early 90s. I don't know the exact year though, since I have seen some 90s with the non-disco and others with it. You know how Jeep is in so far as consistency... Anyway, it seems that you just got the NP231 from a Jeep that used the one piece non-disco D30. You can leave it rigged like you have it, go with the Posi-Lock, or just upgrade to the one piece axles. It all works though.

I am welding the front diff soon and going with a Posi Lock Cable so the no vacuum is no biggie to me, i was just curious cause i never seen it before

A HD one from Tom Woods that was made for me to go with the SYE according to the measurements he asked me for. I am pretty pissed about this cause my clubs last run of the year is this next weekend and i am HOPING he can get me one in time.

Are those YJ springs or CJ rears.

My CJ rear springs seem to have about an inch or two more arch to them.

Refresh this topic in a few weeks and keep us posted on what you think of the springs.

Are you going to open up the spring clamps or run them as thy are? Nice write up.

I dont think you can open JC Whitney spring clamps. They are more of a spring band then they are a clamp. At least this was the case with mine.

Also yours are military wrap and the manglers are not. Are yours the CJ rears? And mangler's the Wrangler?

Mine are YJ Springs and are NOT Military Wrapped.

They sit almost flat on my rig which is what i like, nice and low center of gravity.

I am waiting on the shaft and then i will let ya know how i like em.

I just put new springs on my SOA CJ7 using the HD CJ7 rears at all 4 corners. I had been using the Superlift 1 1/2" YJ springs, but they sagged out after a year. I had those POS spring clamps taken off and had some put on just like DJ. They guy at Sacramento Spring laughed when he took a look at those ones that JRS puts on there and remarked that they would probably break in a couple trips wheeling. Might want to think of changing out the spring clamps over the winter BM. Could give you a little more flex letting those springs fan out.

Looks like I gained about 3 to 3 1/2 inches over my 1 1/2" Superlift springs I was using in my SOA. It will be interesting to see how much they sag once I start using them. I am easly able to put 36" tires under there. Flexing it will be a differnt thing though. I am going to have to do some fender trimming to get them to really stuff.
