Hey everyone,

I am trying to take off a Ford 8.8 e-brake cable but I can't figure out how to get the cable off at the bracket. It looks like there are two pieces that come together and one has tabs on it....

Sorry if it is hard to understand it is difficult to describe. Thank you.

Are you talking about this bracket? If so just compress those little tabs and pull the cable out towards the rear axle assuming you have unhooked the very front of the cable first.

Thanks for the response but it actually the bracket that is on on the disc part of the axle. I will try and post some pics tonight.

Loosen the center bracket several turns (make sure to keep count for tightening later) to create some slack and put a hose clamp around the tabs.

Like UCTJ said... Compress the tabs on the sleeve. You can see the small tabs in that picture and they're slightlt bent outwards. Push all of those in and the cable should pop off.

yup if you compress those tabs up at the Y and then on the axle bracket itself it will release enough tension to allow you to pop the regtangular end that actually moves the e-brake shoes enough to take it off that hook shape bracket.

Thank you everyone for all the help. I got it off pretty easily once I got home last night.

I find it pretty easy to pull cables out with a Little Mechanic's wire, or zip tie. Just wrap the wire around the tabs on the cable, use your pliers and tighten the wire up. All 4 tabs come together at the same time, than just push the cable out of the bracket.
