I have a 14 bolt DRW axle that I would like to use with my GM D60 front end. I know that the DRW is narrower than the SRW, but are the housing the same width?
I've done a search but come up with more questions than answers. Can I weld or bolt on a disc brake bracket outboard of the backing plate flange to make the WMS 67" wide?
Should I just pull the gears and stick them in a SRW 14 bolt housing, or is the conversion a better idea?
Also, does anyone have a picture of a 14 bolt limited slip carrier. This DRW 14 has a carrier that I can't identify, really strange looking?
Someday I'd like to get my Trail Scout running.
Thanks for your help,
Mike

yeah the housing is actually shorter. the whole shebang is skinnier (is that a word?) anyways...my dad got a complete 1ton dually frame & axles for like 200 bucks.....he just swapped the front axle (dana60 replaced d44) and then swapped the gears out in the rear, easier swap than trying to change the perches and put new tubes in it.

Only difference between the DRW and SRW 14 bolts are the bearing hubs. The axle shafts and housing are the same. You can convert from DRW to SRW or the other way around by simply changing bearing hubs. The location of the flange is different between the two hubs. Here is a link to some hubs for sale for going from SRW to DRW.

single wheel bearing hubs and the standard dually wheel hubs are the same. the brakes are different. but the wheel hubs are the same. now the cab and chassis dually hubs are different. they use the dually brake setup but the wheel hubs are offset to make it a 63" axle instead of a 67" axle like the standard dually and the single rear wheel 14bolt. the standard dually 14bolt rear is alot more common than the cab and chassis version so make sure which one you have by measuring it.

The standard width of a Corp-14-bolt is 67"???
hmm, I was under the impression it was 69" (for some reason)... hmm, this may change my plans a bit.... was planning on narrowing the long side 6" to run a short side shaft.... giving me more common parts (and disc kits) as well as 63"... but if its only 67"... then that makes it 61"..... hmm, have to think about this..
time to run to the p-n-p with the tape measure.....
I know the Dana 60 front is 69" and the SRW 14 bolt is 67". Some of the K5 guys run spacer to make the rear as wide as the front.
How would shortning the tubes effect the availability of disc brake kits?
If you want 63" width I've got a DRW that is already 63"?
