At the moment i am wheeling a 91 ford f-150 on a 3 inch body lift warn manual hubs 33 mtz's and crushers with a welded rear. I bought a dana 44 solid axle (out of a 79 bronco) to do a SAS but soon after the purchasing it i've been thinking should i of gone with the dana 60 front solid axle? I've also research that when the SAS is done to the newer trucks they have problems with the front drive shaft hitting the front cross member, is this true? If so what can be done so i lose as little flex as possible. If i do stay with the dana 44 with stock axles what tire size can i run before running into problems? I would like the truck to have some street manners. When the SAS was done i planned on running a 6 inch superflex lift from broncograveyard and with the shock towers in my truck being 2 inch shorter than the 79 shock tower ill be getting an 8 inch lift in the front.

The 78-79 axle the pumpkin is closer to the centerline of the axle. I had a 79 44 in my B2 before the 60 without issue. Find a 85-91 60 and it will fit since Ford put these in without lift and they fit.
Here's my axle swap I just finished on my 93 Bronco. I used a 79 D44. I've got no issues with the driveshaft.

Yeah you'd be better off getting a D60. You already have a HP D44 under there, it's just "split" in the middle.
D44 = 35" tires
D60 = 42-44s (with 35 spline stub upgrade)

My d50/ 44 bogger combo eats shafts. Even 35 splines. :flipoff2:
If you actually wheel it
d44=35's
d60= 42's (until you get to superiors, CTM's etc.)

The other thing i was wondering since i'm a little short for cash, when i go to do the SAS can i just get stock coils and towers from a 79 truck and use those for the time being till i have the money to do a 6 inch lift?

And mentioned above that a dana 44 would hold up to 35s, is that on the stock axles or Chrome Moly axles?

dude just mock it up and find out. we dont know the exact measurements of your rig. quit being lazy and get to work. if someone told me that 10" of lift was the perfect amount to fit rockwells and 46's id be done now. but who the fuck is gunna know that.

use the 78/79 coil buckets. you can find good cheap used springs.
read over on fullsizebronco.com under the sas section. there is probable over 100 different trucks that have already done what you are wanting to do.
there are several builds there that completely spell it out for you.
