'96 Tahoe, 3/4 ton. The last couple times I towed my rig, the brakes will surge (pulse) on the Tahoe afterwards. I have checked out the calipers, the rotors, and the pads, nothing.
Any thoughts on what the problem may be? Wife drives the tow rig as a DD, so get an ear full on this.

your rotors are over heating and warping. they were probably turned down during the last service and when you use them heavy, they heat up and distort. Only two ways to fix it.
1.) don't brake.
Easiest option but in the long haul, the most expensive.
2.) replace the rotors and pads with GOOD quality after market ones. Don't cheap out if you want them to last. don't spring for the blingy crossdrilled crap but vented units are good.
Little pricey upfront, but worth it in the end.

Sounds like you need to remedy why your trailer's brakes are not working before you tow again

Where did you get a 3/4 ton Tahoe? Is is a smooth cyclic pulsation or an erratic vibration? It sould be the ABS going haywire. You can feel it in the pedal and hear the pump running.

don't forget to torque the lugnuts down with a half decent torque wrench to manufacturers specs.
Even with that I can burn up and warp my truck's rotors on demand. Slap 8,000lbs behind it, forget to turn the trailer brakes on and brake coming down a 5% grade. With ceramic pads I'll have solid brakes down to the bottom by smoke will be rolling off the rotors and the rotors will be warped.

Trailer brakes work fine, will lock up without the Rig on it.

See above, trailer does have brakes, but only on one axle.

Smooth cyclic pusation. Can feel it in the pedal for a fact.

sounds like you are overheating the front brakes, do you have drums or discs in the back? If you have drums, maybe they are out of adjustmentand you are stopping with mostly front brakes.

If this is true then it's an ABS sensor going out. Just pull out the ABS fuse. If the problem goes away, then it's the ABS system. If the problem is still there, then it's warped rotors. This is an easy problem to narrow down.
