Could pick up this diff really cheap if i want it but i dont want a D44 up front. So i'd like to know how wide these diffs are, like i said, a scout 44 rear and a toy mini front. This D44 has a Detroit and 4.88:1 gear in it, can i get the same gear for a toy, i assume i would be able to. Thanx to anyone who answers the great "newbie question"

Lotsa vendors selling 4.88's for toy axles, and lockers too. Try any supplier.

I know it has nothing to do with your question but why not put the 44 up front too?then at least you have interchangeability of gears and D-shaft stuff....not to mention no birfields

Well to be honest, i dont think a D44 knuckle will take the abuse that the superbirfs are capable of. Dont even mention a D44 with hybrid 60 knuckles, thats way past my fawkin budget.
oh well

My Scout 44 rear is 58.5 WMS
toy trunion bearings are better than 44 BJ's(not blowjobs tho)

trunions VS. ball joints ??? on a sami. give me a break. run stock axles and u-joints and go to pick and pull and get a spare set of shafts. how often do you brake them anyway. D44 balljoints MIGHT not stand up to superbirfs but they dont stand up to ctm's either. honestly how often do you think that you will brake 44 joints anyway?

Don't bother with CTM joints unless you do alloy shafts.
I've seen stock D44 inner axles snap with just full circle 760's.
