Have a 2003 Ford F350 7.3L powerstroke... want to get rid of the Hypertech programmer and go with an actual chip. Have any of you guys had really good luck with a certain one or what is the best set up to go with??? Open to all suggestions and feedback. I have a guy telling me that the Bully Dog is the best for the 7.3's so I'm sorta curious on ya'lls opinions.... thanks

Thats funny, i would never recommend Banks to anyone unless they have a fat ass wallet, and my Edge ive never had a problem with on my 7.3 Superduty.

:shaking: Banks stuff is just junk for the 7.3L Check out Dp-tuners.com also check out the forum www.powerstrokenation.com. Just do yourself a favor and stay way from over the counter chip/programmers for the 7.3 you have to have a custom chip to make these engines haul.. I think you have already figured that out by wanting to ditch your programming for a REAL CHIP.

Others to look in to are Diesel Innovations (David Lott knows his shit).

Banks = Bad for the 7.3l Gale Banks said himself that to his company the 7.3L is a dead platform. Get a chip from someone that supports the 7.3L

i have removed 4 edge chips from 7.3 due to poor drivability - and one for an engine failure -

i have removed 3 edge chips on 6.6 duramax, one for over boosting and blowing a headgasket. one for injection pump problems ( way to lean ) and replaced the same one 3 times due to tuming problems with a cali truck.

i have installed 5 banks systems ( including a big hoss whatever its called ) in 7.3 and 6.0 - they are the only ones that i have delt with that have not turned on an engine light, melted a tranny, or had strange drivability problems - hi idle, surging, inconsistant tranny shifts, crapping out when put in gear -

i do not have a large amout of tuner knowledge with the oilburners, just my exp. i have not installed other brands or removed them - ive seen hundreds of trucks with other tuners without problems, but have no exp. with them.

i did not chose the banks systems - my customers did, i just installed them, are there better products, sure.

and one of the 6.6 that had the edge, now has a banks chip with only one complant - the edge had more power -

My Buddy has a Bully Dog system on his 99, its not the best as its just a tuner and not a custom burned chip like a TS or Tony Wildman. He is studhorse_3 on here, try PM'ing him.

DP Tuner, Tell the guy the mods to your truc (tire size, intake, exhaust etc.) he burns chips that take into account of what you have done, how much you pull, and there's up to 16 settings that you can have burnt into the chip. my brother in law has the 80hp+ Fuel Economy, 80hp+ tow, 120hp race mode, and 140hp Aggressive.

He shit canned it with the 140hp setting and before we knew it he was pulling 32 pounds of boost, and roasted a posi-dually burner about 3/4 of a city block until he hit 2nd gear.

he also pulls a 40' gooseneck with a camper and a 1ton 1951 willy's. he barely knows its there.

i blew a load in my pants.

DP TUNER ALL THE WAY... Try to keep it under 150mph.... serioulsy dude, try.

ive known the bully dog three position chip to be awesome (forgot what they call it). The power is there on all the positions, but the first position is great for added fuel economy ;)

I always recommend the TS 6-position to my customers. Best variety of tunes, right there on a switch at any time. You choose 6 out of stock, high idle, valet, anti-theft, 50hp,75hp, 100hp, 140hp.

I have tried DP tuner as well, and it is certainly my second choice...i just think it is a tad more sluggish/luggy, while also smoking a good bit more.

IMO, TS is the quickest, as well as having the most options.

If you need any tuner, just shoot me a PM...I am a dealer for most.

I have a TS on my 99 for a few years now and works great. My friend got on for his '01 and he is happy with it too.

Okay, I did TONS of research on this before getting anything, and I have gotta say the SCT Tuner from Innovative Diesel is the best thing out there. It reprograms your truck for power and re-flashes it for shifting points and firmness as well. It's a flash tuner so every part of your truck is re-programmed to run well and not leave a weak link in the setup that isn't taken care of. Also, the SCT Tuner from Innovative Diesel is custom tuned to your driving and vehicle based upon your specs and your conversations with the guys at I.D. Guys are pulling big rear wheel numbers with this set up and everyone loves it. Also the guys at I.D. are very helpful and customer service is great. Go on to thedieselstop.com and ask the guys over there in the 7.3L forum what to get and you'll get abou 18 for SCT, 1 for banks, 1 for edge and 1 for bully dog. Seriously check it out before you buy anything, and read up on the SCT a lot too. It's sweet.

Chips are better for the 7.3Ls than the programmers. You will see more gain and features out of an adjustable setting chip rather than the SCT.

Hands down SCT for the 6.0L though...whoever's tunes you run, is totally driver preference; whether it be innovative, elite, gogo, DJ, etc.

I've ridden in a bunch of 7.3's with almost every chip or tuner on them and mine with a dp tuner blows them all away. awesome power and better mpg than any of the common one's everyone has mentioned.
dp tuner hands down anything else and you are just wasting time and money.

Just goes to show that in each case, the tuner in question is a sponsor of that site. I like both tuners; im just saying you can go to any site and get a ton of people pushing any given product.

That is correct. However. No one that is in the know will recommend Edge, Banks, Bullydog, Superchip, etc. for the 7.3l. They will all recommend something custom either a DP-Tuner, TW, DI, or TS.

www.competitiondiesel.com is primarily a Dodge site. Check out www.powerstrokenation.com

Yup I don't really care who's chip... just get custom tunes for your 7.3, anybody who thinks the off the shelf is as good doesn't have a clue :lmao: I've gotten a few of my friends "off the juice" so to speak and made believers out of em :D

Programmers Suck on the 7.3 The custom chips can do everything a program can do. Plus not take 5 - 10 minutes to change settings. What a pain in the A$$ that would be if you go that route...

Well I just yanked mine out. Worked well at first but the damn thing prevented my truck from running leaving me working on my tow rig at moonrocks over memorial more than the crawler. Don't know what happened to the chip but it failed slowly over the period of about 4 hours until it wouldn't even fire up again? :mad3: Removed the chip and fired right up.

Tony IMO is the only tuner for a 7.3..6.0 and up who cares they are a time boob anyway.
