: Do strangers give you compliments on how your 4x4 looks?

This is not compliments on the Internet. A fair number of people compliment on how my vehicle looks. I can say in the past three months, at least three people said something nice about my vehicle.

It's kinda funny to see people's reactions to my Explorer. Some love it, some hate it, some think I am nuts. I get alot of "what the hell were you thinking" looks but also get quite a few compliments. I get lots of people asking me if I'm "going to fix all those dents" or asking me if I was in an accident. I also get smart ass comments like "Do you ever take it off road?" seems to happen mostly when people look at the passenger's side. Another thing is that people assume that I have never driven off road because of what I drive. Doesn't matter much to me either way.

P.S. I love to see little kids point and say MONSTER TRUCK! It makes me smile. :)

I only got to drive my truck on the road for a very short period of time. I guess it's slightly illegal. One of the mulitiple times I got pulled over, the cop was looking under my truck in everything just to check it out. He thought it was cool.

One night I was cruising around downtown and groups of people would yell and cheer everytime I went by. People take pictures, follow me home, it was crazy and it was a lot of fun. But I got pulled over three times in 5 days and I was banned from the streets of my hometown.

Normally I get asked the usual non-wheeler questions: "How much lift ya got?" "Was it hard to put the lift on?" "D'ya take it off road?" "Is it hard on gas?" "Are those tires loud on the highway?" "Too bad about all the dents and scratches"

One non-wheeler told me my Jeep was too tall and the tires were too big. He said "It just doesn't look good that way". I told him that it's not built that way for looks.

The old CJ5 was great. It just plain looked B-A-D, and I was always getting compliments on it, despite crappy paint & scuffed up rims. Couple of kids asked for an autograph once at an ORV area, and sometimes coming home from mud races after dark, girls would pull up alongside & flash up (never by myself, but a couple times when we were traveling in a group of 4-5 racers).

But, the new racer - despite being actually faster - is much more understated in appearance. Nobody is even remotely curious about it, at least until I hit the starter button ;)

I get lots of looks/compliments on my truck. There's not a lot of custom bed Toyotas running around, and most of the ones that are around here are 2wd delivery trucks with a plain flat bed.
I had a mexican guy offer me a welding job helping him build fences after I told him I built it all myself. Farmers seem to like it too (it would make a great truck to feed out of the back of).

The most suprising compliments come from people I wouldn't expect to notice my truck though. Like an average looking guy in a little sedan who complimented it when i was over at a gas station in an upscale neighborhood. Or a middle aged lady walking out of a gas station that said "that's a cool back end" (I sure hope she was talking about my truck).

But the best ever was on the 4th (when I rear-ended my girlfriend's mom's Rav) as I pulled up to the drive thru window and the first words out of the guys mouth were "what the heck did you do to your truck?! It looks like it could eat little cars". I just laughed and said "Yeah, it already had a Rav4 today."

I usually just get the dropped jaw stare, but i sometimes get actual comments, usually "what is it" or "that thing is cool". As if no one has ever seen an Amigo with 10" of lift on 35s with no doors. the other day some kid at the gas station in a ranger with a :rainbow: prerunner bar on the front says "how high have you jumped that thing" i told him that it was a rockcrawler and i dont normally jump it and he just kinda looked at me like i was speakin greek.

I still think the best comment I ever got was in AZ on Lower Terminator when Keith(?) from www.rockmodified.com said "I dont care if it is stuck, I still think its cool."

Whenever I go wheeling I fuel up the night before really late when most of the weirdos are sleeping.

The 2 favorite questions i've got so far are:

1. "Is that one of those Hummy-V thingies? I bet it can go anywhere."

2. "Are you a Nazi?"
(My response to the guy that was driving a Toyota.)
"Nope, are you Kamakazi?

He had a stumped look on his face and I jumped in my truck and left....hehe

It never ceases to amaze me the attention a large group of dirty Jeeps can generate. It ranges from the obvious disdain from the prick driving the BMW, to the bouncing on the seat, finger pointing 6 year old kid who thinks it's cool.

Last weekend we had a big-ass convoy heading out to the trails, before:
