: Nat. Rally Entry and Lodgings

Hey guys,

Those that are going to the Nat. Rally need to get the entries in, and make lodging plans. I got an email confirmation from the SS that my entry is in, as well as Troy, and Mike's.

They recommend staying at the Moab Vally Inn, but we prefer the Big Horn Lodge (outside facing doors, lots of parking, not to concerned about middle of the night wrenching in the parking lot).

Later,

Blister

Blister, You are correct. We need everybody to register as soon as possible so that we can get an accurate headcount for the BBQ and other Social Events. There should be plenty of room at the Moab Valley Inn and don't forget to tell them you are with the Solihull Society to get the special rate. The great thing about the Moab Valley Inn is that it is walking/stumbling distance from the Moab Brewery. That is assuming you make it across the street "Frogger Style"!

From the looks of it there will be a few more "Hard Core" rigs than in the past. So don't think it is just another Dealership outing with wine tasting. Although there is some wine tasting one of the nights. I'm sure their will be some breakage.

Also, who is going to run Upper and Lower Helldorado? When, before the Rally? I will be in Moab Tuesday night and would like to run lower and at least consider doing upper.

I know I'm doing lower hell but since its a run scheduled for the event I didn't know if I'd do it before, during or after the event. I've got my reservations all made for tuesday night through either saturday or sunday night.

I e-mailed the rally coordinator requesting specificaly what trails would be done on which days. He just wrote back saying the trails are on the website. Wellll the website doesn't say what each day will have to offer. I know its almost 2 months away but does anyone know the schedule? I dont know about you all but we're getting a chub to go on out there.

I will be up in Moab from Sunday night on through the event. Planning on hitting the trails (hard stuff mostly) on Mon-Wed, then hit the event trails.

Definitely up for Upper Hellderado. I am sure Mike, Doug and crew will run it as well!!

All,
I will post the trails schedule here sometimes Sunday. It does exist. Basically I think we won't run Lower Helldorado until Friday and then again on Saturday. Mark (onsafari) is the trail leader for that one.

I am up for the Upper Helldorado venture before the Rally. It would be nice to push the Heep a little and she what she can do, since we don't do much of that hard stuff around here. I hang out with a bunch of Rover weenies :p . I am scheduled to lead Lower Helldorado on Thursay if anybody cares.

Cheers

For all those wanting to do Upper Helldo...Have you ever walked it and/or seen it? I'm sure most of you have, but if you haven't then I would suggest taking a gander first before jumping in line to run the fawker....It's pretty darn nasty for Moab (and most regularly wheeled places).

Just a friendly suggestion! :flipoff2:

Dude, you ain't kidding about UH. It is pretty gnarly. Here is link to the picts from Mike S. attempt at the entrance to UH (which he would have easily made, but we wanted to move on down LH).

http://www.defender-90.com/otr_01_uh.htm

The rest of UH is much worse. The next major stop is at a big trapeziod shaped boulder that you have to straddle (read hang up on), which also leans you off camber into a large overhanging boulder that is sure to grind your rear cage or hardtop. Then on to a nasty at least 12" sheer waterfall (that looks to be about 85 to 90%). I will be pulling out some blue line for that one for sure.

Looking forward to trying out the FrankenRover on that one, any other takers?

Oh yeah I have seen it, walked it, watched videos of friends running it. The only thing I am worried about is the exit. I guess we will see how good that Master Pull line really is. The nice thing is that is is a short trail, allthough it could take all day if there is enough carnage. It sure would suck to break down before the Rally even started and have to ride with someone (that would be with you Larry) the rest of the week. I can't wait, I am getting all tingly inside :D

Hey guys,

Yeah I'm in for UH. Cooper and his business partner Mathew are also coming. Coooper's cutting off the rear half of his cage just to run UH unimpeded! It's gonna be a cool run for sure.

I'm in definitely, Cooper's in definitely, and we'll both have a few 'spotters' to help others get through.

Personally the last obstacle is the easiest IMO. Just hook your winch up to the conveniently placed rebar cemented into the slickrock (NOT THE TREE!!! It's being killed by inconsiderate winchers!) and go on up. This is an obstacle that yeah, you *could* try to drive up, but why try, you know you're not going to make it.

I have seen video of one truck do it unassisted. That was pretty impressive.

I'm worried about the trapezoidal rock myself. Kind of a weird obstacle. Neither side is a good choice and there will probably be a slight tip over or winching excercize there for most people.

The first obstacle is just a good warm up. We had fun playing in it last year and it just got me hankerin' to finish the trail.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm kind of the opinion that we should limit the amount of trucks on that run to under 10, possibly under 8. I just don't want to be there all day (now watch me be the one to cause the big delays!).

I'm thinking of making an RCAA-style assist rope for my truck just for that trail alone!

I think that the group from Portland is staying at the Moab Valley Inn, or camping on a few of the nights.

Looking forward to hanging out with everyone again!

I'll run lower with you guys, not too sure about Upper. Figure that is really no place for a Rangie. I will definitely run spotting for someone and also keep all my spare parts and tools handy in case they are in need. Look forward to taking many pictures as well, hell even the video camera might get used for this one.

I'll send in my registration this week, Troy's already taken care of our hotel arrangements at the Moab Valley Inn. I'd be interested in UH.

Bill or anyone else coming out early interested in hitting some non-moab trails early in the week(Indy, 21 Road, Montrose isn't too far from Grand Junction?) I'm planning on being in Colorado by Sunday night, the 8th(I think).

I plan on doing 21 road but it'll likely be after the rally. Plans could change though. Tyler Wirken, myself and a few others from Kansas City will be in Breckenridge saturday night. We were talking about going down to Chinaman's Gulch Sunday, Iron chest monday and getting into Moab tuesday sometime. From iron chest the trailer queen bunch will head toward Grand Junction and on to moab. I believe Tyler is going to go to Moab via backroads from the Montrose area which should be a good time.

No thanks Larry, I don't trust your spotting capabilities :flipoff2:

BTW anybody got any good pics of UH, I can't find any of the ones I have.

I know everyone is busy like I am getting the rigs ready but how about that trail schedule?
