I bought a 79 F-350 supercab. 460 t-18 tranny. I was told this is a rare truck but I don't know. I bought it for the front end and to cut the frame down to shorten it. It has no bed and looks like it will be a good truck to remove fenders and not lift it. I'll just make it shorter and slap on big tires . I need a redneck beater truck to help build the Raton Off road park but is this too rare a truck with the super cab to beat all up?

Dude trust me that was my intent and still may be. I found out that 79 was the last year of that cool old style truck and it's the only year they put 4x4 in an F-350. It also being the rare super cab makes only the super camper edition more rare. I can't ruin a rare truck when I just need a beater or can I? Can a 79 really be considered a collectable or worth saving? I thought that collecter enthusist crap was for muscle cars and model T's. Does any body really know if sombody would restore a 79 ford truck just because it was a weird combination of options like this?

it depends... if you see the value in the truck then it's definitely worth the restore.

You can turn anything into a crumpled beer can, but imho that is, to date, one of the best looking trucks ever built.

Don't make it a total waste of good parts. rob the 60 out of the front and slap an HD 44 in it (bolt in swap)

restore the truck and run it as your tow rig for pulling whatever you put the 60 in :D (I have some ethics.. but others I bend)

The 79 supercabs are oh so sexy.

I'd do what Silly said.

Love the old Ford's. Can't find alot of them here in my area.

Do what you want with it, I believe they are some of the best looking rigs ever though.

if its a total pile of shit then go for it. if its got a chance to survive then you might as well extend the ol girls life and restore it. but then again, if you do beat the snot out of it and eventually kill it, it just makes the other guys with 79 f350 4x4 supercabs that much more rare so you may be increasing the value of other trucks of thats style:flipoff2:

^Good point there. I am sure there are plenty of non supercabs out there to trash up. The early 80's Ford one tons are getting cheap and you can eplace the TTB with a solid 60 and have a nice 4x4 that is simple and easy to modify.

And thats why i run a $100 74 reg cab and wheel the shit out of it, it's not "worth" anything so I don't care. Keep R is my vote, I would almost kill for a tow rig like that.

screw that. you had a plan in mind when you got the rig, so stick with it. if its not what you want.....make it what you want. regardless of what anyone else thinks. if someone thinks its a crime, let them adopt it for a profit. I cut chopped and raped a 69' cyclone because it wasn't everything i wanted yet. I caught shit, but at the end of the day, it was the car I wanted. chop it up and make it yours:flipoff2:

Throw the diffs under your company car, last time you were on here you were wanting to modify that. I looked but the thread got deleted.

well if its a 4x4, it already has an unoriginal engine...might as well start cutting.

79 F350 Ranger Supercab, 4x4, 400/C6.
Although this thing was so rotted out that the carpet (and the rolled on white paint) was all that was holding the body together. The whole body was swiss cheese (cab & bed), but that 60 & 205 sure do look nice in my 88 :grinpimp:

:

460 was never put in a 4x4 until the eighties, truck would have had a 351m, 400 or possibly a 300 six

Brewchief:D

I would hate to see a solid super cab cut up but it's better than cutting up a crew cab:flipoff2:

Cut that shit in half:flipoff2: Just look at it and ask yourself what you would do with it if you restored it. If you have a purpose for the truck then do it but if it would better suit you as a trail beater then cut that shit up. I cut mine up and was happy.

Most likely a 360, possibly a 300 six, the 351m/400 showed up sometime in 77

Well.....I sold the "holy grail" 79' F3 4x4 camper special (had the cargo hatch lower forward pass. bed side) for 5 X's :eek:more than I paid for it!!! You decide...:flipoff2: The best idea I've heard yet is replace the 60 w/HD 44 & keep it.

X2, keep the 60 put a 44 in, use it as one bad ass tow rig, and build a trail rig.

I was told it was a 460 but I'll check in the morning. How can I tell? I posted it on Denver Craigslist and a Ford site just in case sombody really want's one of these. The whole truck is in really good mechanical shape and came from New Mexico so it only has a little rust on the bottom rear corners of the cab. If I don't get any taker in a week I'm building it.
