I have found a 92' Blazer K1500 w/ Silverado Package. The Blazer itself is in excellent condition! but what i'm worried about when thinking of buying this vehicle is the life expectancy left on the engine. It has about 230k miles on it and has been maintained very well. What can i expect when thinking how much longer this engine may last? I don't want to buy this Blazer for $3000 and have the engine die in another 20k miles, maybe less. Any advice would be appreciated.

I sold a chevelle with a 350 that had 215,000 miles on it. only thing we did after 100,000 was replace valve seals. I should've done a compression test cause it seemed to be losing a little power, but we didn't.
just make sure it runs strong (like mentioned above) and there is no smoke at start, idle, and driving. (cept maybe a little carbon when you get on it) :)
get as much maintenance info as possible.

Think about the tranny/t-case, the monster 10 bolt in the rear, the front wheel bearing hubs, and all of the other parts that may hatch also.

You are basically taking a risk of a $1500 repair bill for a tranny or a motor at any time. It could all go another 100K without a problem, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Figure that risk into the purchase price of the vehicle, just like any used car. Also check the 10 bolt (have seen them grenade well under 100K miles), and the front half shafts. Make sure that the boots on the half shafts are at least still intact, and turn some tight circles in 2WD while listening / feeling for clicking from the front end. Could be a great deal if everything has been maintained.

I have 192,000 on my 89 blazer without any problems but a lot of preventative maintance. My company has a van with 365,000 on the original motor and trany without any major repairs. It's just hard to predict how well a moter has been maintaned and how long it will last. Good luck to you.

My 85 k5 is on its 2nd 350, 2nd 700r4, 2nd 208, third rear axle(10 bolts suck), and 2nd front axle(10 bolts suck). By the way I just hit 86,000. No the odometer has not rolled. I hope your buying your blazer off grandma.

Thanks guys, i'm going to test drive it this week. even with a new motor and possible tranny, I still find the price to be a great deal!

Yes, if the body is good, $3k would be a steal for that truck.
