Since I have some gun parts laying around that can't be used with any of my kit builds I am going to build an AK/Sten/10-22 hybrid and I need some very clear pics of the Sten action design.

I will be using 10/22 mags and barrel, AK FCG, and make the receiver and bolt out of some scrap, I plan on making it a bottom eject but I may leave that up to a poll here.

Oh going to Hawaii for a week so I won't answer back after tonight, but I would really appreciate the pics if anyone has a kit laying around.

Excuses excuses.

Anyone know how heavy I should make the bolt or should I just experiment with springs til I get it right?

I "assume" you are chambering in .22lr?

Yep using the 10/22 barrel that is a pretty good assumption.:flipoff2: I would weigh my 10/22 bolt but that is hard with it 50 miles away and the machine shop right down the road.

The approximate arrangement of pieces:

I will be using a piece of tube for the receiver, bar stock for the bolt, will figure out the firing pin/ejector/and extractor when I get farther along. Resembling the Sten, it will load and eject from the sides 180 degrees apart, have two side plates that house the trigger group using small round stock with 10-32 tapped holes for axis pins which should in turn hold the group together. I will make the receiver slightly larger than the barrel so I can put a shitty little heat shield on it to further resemble the Sten. Will find some type of sights for it I have an older red dot laying around somewhere that might be a prime candidate. A Romy slant brake will reside on the end of the barrel. I have to work out the kinks on my stock and pg/whatever to make it look stennish without being horrendous looking. For style points I will use a Romy gas piston as a charging handle.

I have 3/4ths of a Sten with 99% of the work incomplete. Going to machine the tube and bolt tomorrow and then the fun shit starts.

Do you have a leftover Romie barrel/rsb?

Nope I just have the parts I replaced with compliance parts. Sorry if I did I would send you one.

Someone please enlighten me on how to cut a small assed ID on a lathe because the drill leaves a shitty finish.

Edit: I don't remember the exact number but the 10/22 barrel on the breech end is something like .685 I know it is between a 43/64 and 11/16

Small boring bar or reamer.

11/16" is 0.6875 so that reamer would get you close. But there are tricks to reamer too, so you would probably end up 0.690 or bigger. For precision, you'd really need to go with a boring bar, carbide insert or solid.

That is what I was wanting to do. However the place where I am using the lathe doesn't have a large selection of small tools. The smallest bar is about .500 and I think the cutter would stick off too much.
