T-5 is stock for that year , I just rebuilt ( replaced only what was actually bad - cluster gear ,cluster gear bearing ,front cluster gear thrust washer and 2nd and 4th syncros )myself at work ,I'm a GM / Land Rover tech . It is relatively easy to build ,with a service manual . It cost me $230.00 and about 5 hours .

This trans is not hardcore , it a good daily driver , thats why I rebuilt it as my cj is a DD and light trail truck ,as I have a hardcore rig .

If this is light duty , rebuild it and enjoy it .

If this is going to be more , then any trans from any 4.2 or 4.0 or AMC V-8 ( 304 -401 ) stick or auto , will bolt up to your motor , the problem is in the transfercase . Search !

Based on that......I'd think a rebuild would be just fine.........:D
