I want to leaf spring the front of my Ram tired of breaking cads and unit bearings. I have a 79 ford hp king pin axle to go in it just neeed to know what leafs would hold up the bet under that Cummins. I do a little off roading once in a while but nothing super flexy or hardcore, its my towrig/daily driver. Any info would be great, I have already done searches and found some info just wanting to know what spring to go with mostly. Oh the truck as is has a 3" lift on the front and i would like to stay bout the same height. Thanks Tim

Why would you hack off a perfectly good 5 link to install leaf springs?

Well is there anyway to fix my cad cheaply? I put a posi lok on it and it keeps breaking the posi lok i am certain its adjusted right but it works fine for a bit the it pops out and usually bends the engaging pin that attaches to the fork.
Maybe a one piece axle I could put in place of the cad?

You are breaking stuff because the inner shaft (and possibly the locking collar) are worn out. My '95 with over 300k miles on it is finally worn out and I can break stuff too if I'm stupid and use a lot of throttle.
If you actually use the truck nicely you can keep things from breaking even if the parts are worn out. Mine has been bad for over a year now and have done quite a bit of snow wheeling and some normal wheeling with no issues since then. I bet I could go out and break it in less than 5 minutes though.
Buy the parts and fix it right or use a 1 piece shaft in there to eliminate the CAD.

http://www.thurenfabrication.com/home.html would be a place to look before you go and rip your front suspension out.

The stock coils won't fit between inboard of the kingpins.
IMO, look at recycling some TTB50 parts and find some used D60 stubs.

I would go leaf that's what I'm doin to get rid of that coil mess and ball joints make it simple and bullet proof also have manual hubs why wouldn't you do it the only down fall I see is the ride will be a little stiffer!!!

Way to dig up a 2.5 year old thread.
