: 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck 4x4 Quad Cab gas mileage??
Dookey 06-04-2008, 08:38 PM Looking for some actual numbers from actual owners. I'm checking out a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck 4x4 Quad Cab TCD Big Horn edition.

From my guesstimations it would be a wash in cost vs my daily gasser!
Tim84K10 06-05-2008, 12:23 AM If it's an automatic, plan on 14-15 mpg.
thecj3man 06-05-2008, 04:23 AM My truck averages about 19 MPG unloaded. 2006 2500 4x4, duad cab, CTD, long bed, six speed. I tend to drive 65 though. Loaded up with my toyota and all my gear it averages about 14 MPG, but there is a lot of hills to pull around here.
mondtster 06-05-2008, 05:41 AM If it's an automatic, plan on 14-15 mpg.
My buddy has been averaging 19 mpg with his bone stock '05 CTD/auto. He can get into the low 20s if he slows down a bit cruising on the highway.
14-15 mpg sounds like what you might get if your commute only consisted of stop and go driving, but upper teens would be a more realistic figure for mixed city/highway driving, assuming you don't drive like a retard.
nsscout 06-05-2008, 06:05 AM i drive mainly highway at 70 to 75 and average about 17 to 19 depending on my right foot unloaded. average about 14 with my scout on a car hauler weighing about 2500lb.
Dookey 06-05-2008, 07:19 AM Thought I copied it over but it is the 6 speed manual. My 6.0, auto gasser gets 10. I can average 13 on the highway unloaded.
Do the economy stages on programmers net you any better numbers?
Dad's 2006 MegaCab CTC 3500 SRW auto 4x4 started out around 16mpg according to the overhead unit, and is now up to more like 20 as he's just recently put 20k miles on it. I think it could do better than that.
STILWELL 06-05-2008, 08:10 AM 06 has the g-56 tranny and overdrive is a little short, freeway milage suffers a bit. I still got 15-17 when I had stock tires
EGzuki 06-05-2008, 08:13 AM i've got a 2006 quad cab CTD laramie. I've been hand calculating 16.2 mpg unloaded and just got back from the hills towing at 12.42 mpg. I drive the shit like an old grandpa too since diesel sky rocketed.
18-20 driving like an old lady and 14-15 towing. 2007 4WD, auto.
'06 CTD MegaCab 2WD auto with 20K miles on the ODO.
Mix Driving 17.5mpg
Highway 21mpg
The mileage improve a bit since I drove it off the show room floor a few years ago.
welndmn 06-05-2008, 01:14 PM The best way to figure out a Dodge's MPG, is to ask a Ford guy what he gets and double it..................
Anyway people seem to inflate theres. I have a bunch of mods, and 35's and get 17-18.
Figure 14-20 is the range this trucks run in.
84 Sheepdog 06-07-2008, 10:39 AM I got 19 with stock tires. I've got it straight piped and put an intake on it and am getting about 16-17 now with 35s on it. If I've got the smarty set on idiot I probably get around 12.
nvrenuf 06-07-2008, 10:59 AM 06 Megacab 2500 4x4, ctd w/ 6spd - 15 & 18 unloaded (~11 loaded on hwy)
Dookey 06-07-2008, 11:00 AM I brought one home on a test drive. It is different than the one pictured above. Silver, auto, 88k. What's the better transmission and what should I look out for? This will be my first diesel and I'm kinda getting excited by it.
The 48re is not a bad tranny as long as you stay at or near stock power. Also has a higher OD than the 6-speed.
My 05 gets 16mpg for now, with only 19k miles. Should go up a bit. 48re, 3.73, 285s and everything else stock. Tows great.

Your current gas rig must get really shitty mileage then. Don't fool yourself, you aren't going to save any money. Especially with what that truck is going to cost.
On the other hand, it is a cummins.

It does. I'm in the 10-11 range from mostly city driving. I guess I should have stated, the additional fuel savings will offset the higher payment. Regardless, I still need a newer truck as my current is reaching that 100k mark. I need to have a truck for work. I want the diesel for towing my junk. I made the mistake of getting a gasser a couple years back.
I appreciate all the replies so far. :)
robbieyukon 06-09-2008, 04:56 PM If its power you want and you are going to keep it a long time dont worry about the mpg. With a light foot, exhaust, and a tuner you should see 20ish unloaded and 15ish loaded. Larger tires will help you on the highway but hurt you around town. Once you buy a diesel, no matter what brand you will never go back. Have fun.
Jeepin Jason 06-10-2008, 08:00 PM I have an 06 Megacab Laramie 4X4 and I get about 20 on the highway, sometimes up to 22 if I keep it right at or around 2,000 RPMS.
I have a bunch of add ons and really have a problem keeping my foot out of it in town and get around 16MPG back and forth from work.
Towing, I am still able to get almost 14.
Trailduster79 06-11-2008, 10:05 AM This is an 06 3500 Quad Cab Long Bed 4x4 Auto
First, don't give any credit to the overhead, or someone who tells you their milage based on the overhead.
Mine read 24.5 on the last tank and hand calculated was 17.6
Towed my camper this weekend and on the way there I got 12.5 and on the way back (downhill) I got 14.
it is bone stock other than a the muffler is MIA
Dookey 06-14-2008, 10:54 AM Bought one!! :D:D Found it sitting on the corner. Military guy and he is getting shipped out to Germany. So he sold me his truck. 06 quad cab 2500 with 12300 miles!! Price?? 26500.
