Ok, it's actually for a boat trailer, but that's not really important.

It's made of C channel. The frame is completely cracked from top to bottom (the two pieces aren't even really attached to each other).

It cracked due to rust- it gets dipped in the ocean about 4 times a week.

What's the best way to patch (weld) it back together? Sandwich it? Triangulate the C channel?

It doesn't have to be super-ultra strong becasue it only holds a small ski boat and it only has to go about 1 mile each way to the bay and back...

I would plate the outside of the frame and box the inside with 3/16". Should be good as new and hold for years.
