: RRO Toy OTT steering kit hits the spring
Samurai kfir 06-07-2008, 04:25 AM Hey
I'm having a problem with the RRO OTT Toy steering kit.
The tie road hits the right spring at a full left turn.
My springs sits on the original Toyota spring pads and i only have an added leaf to the spring pack.
What have i done wrong? could be that my mistake is the steering arms installed opposite way:confused:??
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Marshall-88Zuk 06-07-2008, 09:38 PM I think you have the arms on upside down and on the wrong sides.

Thx for the replay!
The arms cannot be upside down, the king pins are attached to them.
In the picture the arm might look like it has a down offset, but it is totally flat, it only has an inside offset, but when the knuckle turns, it takes it down because of the angle.
This might clear up things, its the best i have :shaking::

Hvy_Chevy 06-09-2008, 05:06 AM Are those Toy TREs? I'd say either bend the arm, call the vendor, or return them and get Trail-Gear arms (and a ubolt flip kit.)

Sounds like you have an understeer. where the wheels actually turn under the vehicle instead of left to right. when u did the spring over did you leave the pinion angle at 0degrees? if you did pivot the pinion up i think u have to cut the knuckles loose and set them back to 0 or whatever they are originally to prevent understeer. if the knuckels are set right they should go left to right without any down travel. which should give you the clearance you need.
my first spring over i set the front axle pinion angle up to help the driveline angle. all it did was create a huge headache with the understeer. had to cut the perches off and set the pinion back to 0
LittleBlackSambo 06-10-2008, 11:16 AM i'd check caster angle. i had to cut and rotate the knuckles with a similar setup. bear in mind that the axle will twist forward a bit under braking, possibly causing more problems. a panhard bar wouldn't hurt either, so long as your system will support one.
blackrider 06-10-2008, 01:04 PM you mean a track bar...

Sorry, i'm new.. what is TREs??

The pinion is at its stock location, i'm using the original toy perches.
The knuckles do go left and right without any down/up travel, but its the arms located on the king pin mount, and this ain't sitting straight as i know, you can try and see it in the first picture, the king pin mount makes the arm lean a bit inside, and because of that it takes the tie rod down/up while steering.
I guess that if i had a raised arm that corrects this angle it would have solve this problem..
RRO sucks. send them back, get trail-gear .
I was contacting RRO by E-Mail about this problem and they say that: "Some of the Toyota axles require a raised arm on the steering knuckle."
I didn't knew that when i bought this kit, and i was never asked by RRO if i want a raised arm or not.
Now they offer me an exchange... :mad3:
Any ways, thank you all! I have to run to work now, no time.. thx again!
ogelvy 06-11-2008, 10:13 AM your added leaf is allso not helping, its so close that it would probably work if you didnt have it.
LittleBlackSambo 06-11-2008, 05:01 PM you mean a track bar...
well, the track bar was invented by Rene Panhard in 1895, so by it's patent name it is a panhard bar. :grinpimp:

Removing the added leaf might solve the problem when the rig is in the garage, but when the front right suspension drops, and in a full left turn it will hit, with or without the added leaf, so this ain't the solution...
And more then that, i might want to throw in some other springs and i don't want to be limited by 2 mm' of clearance..
I'll update you guys as the story continues..
wheresmyhat 06-12-2008, 11:49 AM My buddy is running yj springs with the rocky road OTT. His was hitting the spring also. Solution was to heat the arm up and bend it upward to clear. This was all done on the vehicle.

I've paid enough for it to fit perfectly...
zukking01 06-13-2008, 03:11 PM I had that kit and had the same problem. I pulled the crap RR arms and sold them so I could get a set or arms from Marlin. Then I made links out or DOM and Heims.
zukion33s 06-14-2008, 11:06 PM that kit sucks i had it and me and my buddy had to cut the arms and ad a inch spacer to make them work
