I was quoted $15 a tire <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">
Welby 10-08-2001, 05:28 PM Never heard of it <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">....
You got some 'splainin' to do <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
CHOKE 10-08-2001, 05:28 PM I had it in one of my swampers by itself with no lead weights... It sucked! Their website says that the equal optimizes traditional balancing. So that tells me you need them somewhat balanced.
wngrog 10-08-2001, 06:48 PM Hey Don, screw that stuff....does not work unless you put more than $15 worth of it in each tire!!!
TheLakeRat 10-08-2001, 07:20 PM We tried it in our big truck truck tires when I used to drive for a living and it definatly did not work. At times I think it made it worse.
FattyCBR 10-08-2001, 08:20 PM Two problems with it that I've heard. First, it clumps if it gets wet, but supposedly a new version is coming out. Second, you need special valve stems so it doesn't come out.

fc187 10-08-2001, 10:21 PM cool, thanks for the feedback!
I'm kinda glad it sucks <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
I wasnt to crazy about puting $15 of "dirt" in each wheel.
OK, now how about weight patches?
will they actually stay on when the tire is aired down?
Thanks <IMG SRC="smilies/beer.gif" border="0">
Don
SwampTJ 10-08-2001, 10:32 PM How bout these, Centramatic (http://www.centramatic.com/). Anyone ever given them a try?
Mcstiff 10-09-2001, 01:03 AM There is a review on www.rockcrawler.com (http://www.rockcrawler.com)

I've heard good things about weight patches because they put the weight near the edge of the tire and not on the rim, plus they can't get knocked off. However, to put them in you have to remove the tire from the rim, then remount to further balance. So patches are expensive.

fc187 10-09-2001, 07:10 AM hmmmmmm, rings huh? hmmmm......how much do they go for?
Dustball 10-09-2001, 07:17 PM I'm going to be getting a set of 39.5 TSL's next week and will need to have them mounted and balanced. In the past, I haven't had much luck with finding a tire place that handles tires that big but Discount Tire has just come to town and will be opening soon.
Does anyone know if Discount Tire handles tires that big and if they use the weight patches?

I'm not sure about DTD, but big rig tire places definetly do patches.

I checked out that review on rockcrawler & they seemed to like them of course. I emailed centramatic about the price, still waitin. Seems like they're around 100$ a piece though, can't remember.
BigBadBob 10-09-2001, 09:53 PM Robert Canon has those:
Roberts Axle writeup (http://www.frankentaco.com/taco/axle.html) I believe that he likes them. I wasn't able to find a specific writeup on his page about them though.

pcorssmit 10-10-2001, 07:44 AM I tried Equal and was unimpressed. Not sure if it helped any, plus you have to run these stupid filtered valve stem extensions. They get hung up on rocks, and it takes days to air down if you leave them on. If you do decide to try it, find a cheaper source. I got it right from the distributor and it was much less.
I priced out some balance rings, I think they were like $400, maybe more, and they still wouldn't promise it would solve the prob. I have my old 35s for extended street driving, mounted on non-beadlocked wheels. I think my beadlocks contribute significantly to the balance prob. w/the Swampers. I finally solved the problem with an 18' flat bed trailer and a 2500 Dodge.

ChadLloyd 10-10-2001, 07:47 AM The problem with the centramic (sp?) balancers is that they only will handle a certain amount of inbalance - I think like 6 or 8 onces. Most bias ply swampers are going to require a lot more weight than that.
