: wrecked my blazer

ok so i had a blow out in my 1985 k5 blazer on my drivers front tire doing 80mph on the highway. so i skidded across two lanes of 5 o'clock traffic and hit the median about 2 really HARD times and slid down the concrete median about 20 yards. With NO body damage from the median i did not hit any other cars and I am ok. But now both of my aluminum rims on my drivers side are trashed and so I am buying new tires and rims. I want 15 x 10 rims i have that part down but i don't know exactly what my bolt pattern is i know it is a 6 bolt but other than that i do not know the backspacing or anything else that i would require ordering wheels off of jegs. I want the Cragar soft 8 15 x 10 rims and i want some interco tires from superswamper i would like to put in 35" tires but i am unsure if they will fit i have a 4" suspension lift i think i would have to cut out the fenders some but how much if you guys can give me some info i would be forever grateful. i have searched google and i will continue to search but if anyone can help please do. I am such a noob when it comes to tires and wheels i have never had a lifted truck and i am working on building this one up but now i am in a bind because this is my daily driver so i need it back on the road in a matter of a few days not weeks or months

you learn your lesson the hard way i guess about going 80 in a k5. ive done it too so i wont complain. 35s will fit if its just a daily driver. but they will rub offroad under flexing conditions.

take 1 of the good rims to a tire store and see if they can give you the info your looking for or call Jegs tech # As for fender trimming put a 35in. tire on and trim as needed

The 6 bolt patterns are all the same, no worries there.

We have no idea what your backspacing is now so there is no way we can help you with that.

Swampers will hurt your mileage, wear quickly, and they're noisy. If your truck is a DD you may want to look for a more street friendly tire.

^^ thats good advice.

you can measure your backspacing yourself, most of the time.

chevy wheels with a 6 lug are 6 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern... same as Toyota six lug, Jeep J10 six lug, Nissan six lug, and something else that has six lugs that i forget....

Should be easy to get a wheel for them, as this is one of the most popular half ton wheel bolt patterns made. start by cruising through magazines and figuring out what wheels you have that look like this, or go to the tire store.

thank you guys so much for the input i wish i could give pics i will put some up on my myspace and redirect there. as i understand it you can only post pics with a red star and right this second i am looking into spending about $1100 on tires and rims so i dont have the money for the star. really though it sounds very dramatic when i tell the story but there is nothing to it. the rim is trashed and that is it these k5's are absolute tanks. i want to do some light trailing i am not interested in really bogging so i guess there really is no point in putting on swampers. But the company i work for hauls mud so i need to be able to drive around in mud on a regular basis ( ohhh shucks) and not get stuck. I was also wondering my blazer is all stock if i went trailing would it get damaged badly (i.e. transfercase, axles, the rest of my drive line) i understand there is always the risk of damaging your off road vehicle when you drive it off road. Everything is stock except a rancho lift with blocks in the back and leafs in the front. it has the stock gm 10 bolt front and rear axles. The transfercase feels tight there is no slop in the drive line at all that i can feel.
Also i dont know of any were around my area to go trailing i live 15 minutes south of Ft. Worth, Texas so if any one knows i would really appreaciate it.

First off, they'd be superswamper's from Interco Tire, not the other way around. Second, maybe a set of these will fit your needs?

http://intercotire.com/site35.php

...and maybe a 34/12.5/15 would be a nice compromise between height and not rubbing?

thank you for the idea like i said earlier i am very new to this so i am sure i made lots of mistakes in my explanation and the only way for me to learn is by people pointing out my mistakes i do like those tires you pointed out i picked out the ones i said before because i liked the style and i liked the price i am on a tight budget but i want good tires so i want to find a happy medium not "cool" looking "cheep" tires.

Well i had a stroke of genius luck this morning i have a 62 chevy 1/2T pick up i bought when i was 13 and i was given some nice aluminum centerline drag-pro rims i thought at first they were 5 lug but......
Low and behold they will work. i think

....I was looking at their web site and i can not find the rims on their site....
i know they are centerline i guess i will have to buy the star so i can post pics

The other thing is, the smaller the tire the lower rolling weight of the tire/wheel combo= better for the 10 bolt. Those axles are your weakest link but for DD, no problem. For light wheeling, probably no problem but you would be beeter off with a somewhat small tire like the 34".

i have decided to stick with 33's due only to financial issues my wifes car is in the shop getting fixed so i have super low funds right now and my dad is buying the tires so i can get back and forth to work. So unfortunatly i am stuck with the tires i can afford:(

This thread reminds me once again of one "gentleman" who posted up a thread here a few months back asking about what gearing he would need to be able to do 115 mph down the highway with 44" TSLs...

Which also reminds me of another "gentleman" who, in the same thread as the one just referenced, posted up bragging about how he "kicks back, one hand on the wheel, doing 85 down the highway with 44" Boggers on his truck with 12 inches of lift"...

Ummm....yeah....

We all need to stop and consider what impact our foolishness may have on other people.
Every day, law makers are looking for any and every reason to kill our way of life, whether its laws that limit the modifications we can make to a street legal vehicle, or closing down trails and parks that we wheel.

Full size 4x4 rigs were not designed for breaking land speed records.

Just because we "can" does not mean we should.

A good visual inspection of ones tires every once in a while can prevent dangerous blowouts. (looking for unusual bulges, bald spots, steel belts showing and so forth)

What tire did you have on there that blew out?
80mph on the freezy into the median likely damaged more than your rims. Be sure to inspect all steering and suspension componets and get an alignment.
With stock gears 35's will roast your trans if you dont have a huge cooler, assuming 700r4.
I would likely go for 33's if you dont see gears in the future befeore you go thru the tires.

well i got my new tires. i got maxxis mudders buckshot they are not top of the line but they are quiet and drive good i am going to take my truck tomorrow and have it inspected for any damage by a pro i inspected it myself but i am not a expert or mechanic the only thing i have noticed is my drivers side front hub is hot so i am going to replace my barrings but other than that i have not found any damage. it was a little out of alignment before it tracked to the right but now it drives straight for as long as the road will go. you guys are awsome i am so glad i found this site. i hope to find some one around the ft worth area to go trailin with i am such a noob at this so i need to find some one or a club that is experienced and patient :)i hope to see some of you guys out on the trails :smokin:

... also "A good visual inspection of ones tires every once in a while can prevent dangerous blowouts. (looking for unusual bulges, bald spots, steel belts showing and so forth)" my tires were bad i have been needing to replace them for several weeks but i did not have the money so i was a dumb butt for driving like i was but i was in a hurry so i guess stupidity took over. so i have no one to blame but me

You're lucky....or should I say, someone else is lucky, that vehicle (and soley your vehicle) damage is all that happened.....and that no bodily harm or death happened to some inocent person(s)! We've all been there at one point or another....

and only cost about 300 bucks. Get a ball joint press form one of the local auto parts stores, they "rent" them.

i am terribly sorry i am a complete fawk tard for not buying a star and posting pics when i get my truck straightened out i will post pics. about how long would it take to do it my self i work a lot and have a family so that leaves me little time for wrenching. I am helping my dad build a trucking/landfarming company so i am on call 24/7. ok so i don't really have a very valid reason except for time to do it my self and the lack of knowledge. i have an industrial air compressor and air tools at my disposal so that will help. what about a good repair manual every repair manual i have ever bought (i.e. Chilton's) was not worth a shit it was very vauge and had little use full information. literally in the last one i had for my blazer i was wanting to change the light bulbs in my instrument panel a really simple job but i was not sure if i had to take out the screws to do it or if i could access them from the back so i went to the Chilton's it said locate screws to remove to replace reverse process. I was like WTF i know that you friggen fawk tards. so if some one could suggest a repair manual that you have used and really like then i would be much obliged if you could point me in the direction

I did a quick google search for you and this popped up:
http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/balljoint.php

Balljoints are sometimes hellish but usually manageable. You can do one side in about 2 hours if you're fast (and no problems) and probably 5-6 if you're a little slow.

Most of the chilton style repair manuals are not worth much to a complete newb as they do not explain everything; the factory manual might be more help as it is more step by step.
