: Front rear width mismatch...

I finished my hub conversion this weekned. Took off the Dana 30 outers after blowing up a stub shaft at Zookimelt, and converted to full Dana 44 (Chevy) stubs. I used a mixture of Chevy and Ford parts (for 5 on 5-1/2). However, the Ford hubs added 1/2" to the WMS each. So now my front is 1" wider than my rear axle. I know the competition guys are doing this to gain gate clearance on the rear. Has anyone run a mismatch setup for general wheelin?

I can get wider spacers made for the rear (I'm already running 1") to correct the difference. But, I'm thinking this might be good to try as is. What's your thoughts, Good or Bad...?

I'm running a Waggy wide D44 front and a scout D44 rear with 2" Performance Wheel spacers on the rear to come close to the front width. I'm still about 1" narrower in the rear. No adverse effects......... seem to work fine. The bolt on type spacers have given me NO problems in the 1.5 years I've been running them. Been to Disney 20 times or more with them and pounded it pretty hard. I ran a tough truck event this weekend at a county fair and with 2-3 feet of air under the Sammy things held up with no problems.

It shouldnt be that noticable I run 2.5 B.S wheels on the rear and have 2" B.S on the front with an added 1/4"spacer up front just to keep the tires off the springs

Thanks guys, it sounds like it's not that odd.

What about any of the AZ guys? I remember one trail that required riding the side of the truck on a wall. Is it going to be a problem keeping the rear from sliding off, if it's not the same width?
Maybe you just have to make it the first time, because there is no way you'll be able to back up.. :)

hmm.. I will be running an IFS toy rear, with my 85 front. It's supposed to be 3" wider than the front. If it's a problem, I will just get spaces for the front.

You could use this as an excuse to get bigger tires. ;)

Toys guys, as mentioned, do this quite often. IFS toys are 58" wide. Solid axle Toys are 55" wide. When you do an axle swap with an older toy front, you end up 55" wide in front, and 58" wide in back.

I haven't noticed it except for the ocassional really tight squeeze, and no one I wheel with frequently has spotted it unless I pointed it out. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. A lot of the Toy guys that swap in D44 fronts end up wider front than rear, and it doesn't seem to bother them. I think it's something like 61.5" front and 58" rear.

I think it is the chevy trucks that come with that set up from the factory the noarrow rear axle helps in turning radius so you shouldn't have any adverse mechanical effects if you don't like the look try wheel spacers.

A 1/2" difference on each side?? I don't think you(wheelin') or anyone else would notice at all.
