I have some rims that I would like to use, but want to keep the strength of my 14 bolt. Is there anyway to convert the 8 lug to a 5 lug chevy pattern ?

I was considering this same thing my self. I think its possible as long as you have a Semi Floater, FF hubs would never fit inside the 5 lug pattern. I heard this weekend that the 454SS produced from 1990-93 has a SF14 under the rear and they used the normal 5 on 5 lug pattern that the small block trucks ran.

That is true about the 454 SS, it did have a 5 hole SF14bolt. If u have a 14FF, the hubs can be turned down to fit a six-lug wheel as I have seen a couple of guys on here do it. Not quite sure about the 5 hole though. Maybe check the diameter of the hole in your wheels and compare it to the 6 hole wheels.

The 6 lug pattern is 6 on 5.5 and the 5 is 5 on 5. I would be cautious about machining the hub to the point that it loses strength. You may have to do a combination of both machine the hub and open up the wheel center. Even though you may like the rims, I would think the expense/time/effort to make it all work would more troublesome than just getting some nice 8 lug wheels.

Ok, so I can turn down the hub in a lathe, no problem.

But how would I get the holes to line up perfect ? 8 lug to 6 lug pattern ?

weld up or plug the existing holes and have the new hole pattern drilled by a machine shop with the necessary indexing tools to accruately locate them.

I was under the impression there was an aftermarket hub with other bolt patterns you could use on the axle housing ?!?

Check out Geartech, they make conversion hubs to 5 on 5.5 for 14 bolts, I am not sure about the 5 on 5.

I just bought the geartech disc and hub conversion for my 14 bolt so i could switch from the 8 lug to the 6 lug because I didn't want the to have to run a crazy offset for my 15" rims. The kit is damn pricy though$$$. I can post up pics when it arrives later this week if you want me to.

What bolt pattern are these rims? First you want 5-lug, then 6-lug? If you want the strength of the axle, suck it up and buy 8-lug rims. If you're that concerned with the wheel style, strength probably isn't as much of an issue. Perhaps the 9.5" 14SF axle would be a better alternative afterall....:rolleyes:

if you want to run 5 lug rims...then go out and buy a 1/2 ton ford truck.

the semi float 14 bolt is a 6 lug. lots of work and money just to down grade it.

the FF 14 bolt is a 8 lug axle, again lots of time and money to down grade it to a 6 lug.

but why:confused::confused:

I would also have to imagine that anything running a 5 lug does not probably have a large enough tire to give you a descent amount of ground clearance underneath the 14ff.

I bow to the man that can drive that skillfully. I know that I sure as hell couldn't:smokin: but don't you think that in general it is a lot of weight on 5 lugs that close together
