: wheeling? or think your wheeling?
badassjeepguy 07-22-2002, 10:45 AM thought id shar a little humor at the last erocc..... a few competitors were trying to get up a tuff hill climb, a spectator starts telling people around him a story of when he was wheeling his chevy... he was saying that he has takin it up hills steeper than this one.... ( it was a stock chevey truck, with low loc? ba hahahahaha) but anywho he was just goin on bout how this stock truck was gettin it all over tha place.... so the ? is how many people have you come across that say they used to wheel, then you ask what vehicle/mods.... then say to yourself, that aint wheeling :D
sceep 07-22-2002, 10:53 AM BWAAA HAHAHA
My father in law is THE WORST.
Ever fawkin time i bring up wheeling he has to try and brag about how badass his STOCk z-71 is. lol
We were in the grage the other night.. finished up the rear shocks.. took it out on the ramp to make sure all traveled good..
he pulls up and starts talkin shit again..
so i pull off.. and tell him i wanna see it. Get some on this ramp man.
so he trys to pull up on it..cant even get 1 ince because his fog lights are hitting the ramp.
So i tell him. I'll do all the work and pull your whole fawkin bumper off if you want just to prove to me that your truck is worth CHIT, lol.. he left.
JamisonWorkshop 07-22-2002, 10:55 AM Not a 4x4 but I had a guy up the street from me who was a straight out pathalogical liar. He had at least 5 stories a day. His big one was about his Nova he had decked out. This and that blah blah blah. I finally call him on it and drive by his house ony to see sitting in the weeds with no glass seats tranny or engine his primered up HOTROD. Too bad it only shut him up for about a week, Then he was right back at it with something else. I could see a work in progress. but this thing was not being anywhere near and he wasnt even in a hurry to cut the grass around it.
Some people.
Welby 07-22-2002, 10:57 AM Guy I work with had an early 90's Ranger and would tell me how it was locked front and back from the factory, and that it would go anywhere he pointed it.. Unstoppable, lol
Whizzy 07-22-2002, 10:58 AM My buddies dad is pretty hilarious though.
Late 70's chevy dually.
31" pizza cutter something or others. :D
Lifted to the sky.
Springs dont budge.
Tells me that anywhere my toy can go, he can go.
:D
Yeeah OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish that he would have followed me up sledgehammer then.

We see 'em at the mud races. Most shut up after they get their lunch money taken away. But, some will continue to boast even afterwards, blaming their draw # for the fact that they finished 37th out of 42 trucks :D

Cliffy [JD] 07-22-2002, 11:27 AM My step dad USED to say that his old (but good running and looking) 72 Ford F-150 2wd could go anywhere that anything with 4wd could go, *if he gave it enough throttle* This went on for YEARS!!!!
Then I started getting into 4wheeling and building my blazer, then my scout and started showing him pics. I haven't heard a word about his *THEORY* in years.
Cool thing is, he recently took a honda civic. Ripped off the doors, took out the glass, cut off the roof (including hatch) behind the B pillar cut the fenders out and plans to build some HACK lift for it and drop 31's on it. He's using it as a dune buggy in N.M. He made sure to empahsize to me that his Honda "WAS NOT A ROCKCRAWLER OR 4 WHEELER, JUST SOMTHING TO HAVE FUN IN"
he says he's gonna send me pics.....
doctor_G 07-22-2002, 11:32 AM How bout guys that splash through a few mud puddles in their stock 1 ton extended cab.
"You want hardcore-I'll show you hardcore!" they say.

That's cute how you stick up for your "special friend". Or should I say disgusting how you stick it up your special friend :barf:
Travis Waldher 07-22-2002, 11:47 AM If they are REALLY bad about it. I'll taunt them in to breaking/damaging their rig. Yeah.. I may be an asshole for it, but someones gotta teach people like that a lesson.
First place you go 45 degrees off camber or 70+ degrees nose up, they'll shuttup. :p
elf_cruiser 07-22-2002, 12:00 PM i love the old line, "Yeah this thing's been through some shit..."
That seems to be the frat boy anthem.
Krylon.. 07-25-2002, 12:15 PM LOL, this is sorta similar but off some.
When Quaker Steak and Lube was having 4x4 night and they had the mud pit a guy from another club started getting on me about making it through the mud pit. The pit had two lanes, one was shallow and easy, the other was harder and deeper. I watched this guy going through and he was having a hard time on the deeper hole and had to get pulled out a few times. A friend of mine wanted to go through but I chose the shallow lane.. As I was pulling out he started his hsit talkin about how I could make it through the other side and whatnot. SO I turned around and went through it with little problems. Then he says no, you have to come form the other way! So I went that way too without probelms, then being the smartass that I am, I backed through it! Then to be an even larger smartass, I drove through the deep end and then up and over the middle hump and out the other side! Everyone was screamin and cheering!!! I dont htink he went through it again the rest of the night! LOL
WOLF359 07-25-2002, 01:22 PM Everyone has someone like this in their group...
I have a guy who, same thing... everthing you've ever heard of or seen, he's done, only with 31's and no lockers. Can follow anyone, anywhere, been there done that, silkscreened the t-shirt himself. Luckily I've never wheeled with him, or I might be tempted to have him prove it. :flipoff2:
If you ever get a chance to actually wheel with them, when you do something and they can't, they just automatically point at your rig and say...
"well, If I had ...
[44's]
[horsepower]
[lockers]
[suspension]
[clear diff covers]
[stock xterra]
"then I would be able to do this trail too..."
When you first meet people, it's hard to really figure out if they are bullshitting you or are really accomplished. Anytime I hear a story around the campfire, I usually divide by 2 anyway.
Tim.
Bones 07-25-2002, 01:51 PM Ahhh my neighbor who is the BEST at everything, and knows everything, has never owned a 4x4 and does not hold down a job for more than a month, talks about his buddies old chevy with 14" lift and 38" monster mudders and POSI's (god I hate that word :D) back in the 70's-80's I guess. Tells his friends mine has "posi's" and I reply back "THEY ARE LOCKERS, NOT POSI'S, THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!!!"
He says "It was like a baja truck the suspension was so soft" lol Told me it could climb that reataining wall in between our houses. (it's 2 feet tall max) without it even feeling like it was there. Then tells me that he'd be surprised if mine could..lol He always wants to take me to these "badass" wheelin' spots but then when I ask, he bows out.
Gets old, and he talks about the same topic everytime I'm in the garage
SMART ASS 07-25-2002, 01:54 PM wheeling? whats wheeling
You guys can say what you want.... But I have seen old coots and redneck farmers go through some NASTY stuff "all in a days work" and not think twice about it... THAT is more amazing to me than the guy who *thinks* he has done some hard wheeling ;)
AzWebMan 07-25-2002, 04:18 PM A guy I used to play pool with every Friday would brag to me how his full size 4x4 pickup could go anywhere my Heep could go.
One Sat I finally convinced him to ride along with me. At the end of the day he walked back toward the middle of the trail and was looking around. Finally he said to me "Ya know, if you'd brought me here yesterday in a helicopter and told me that you're gonna drive your Jeep up THIS wash, I'd have thought you're nuts. Today, I know you're just plain crazy." I never did figure out what he meant by that, but he never did brag about his truck again -- at least not to me. :D
66CJdean 07-25-2002, 04:51 PM That is what my signature is joking about. I get tired of listening to people tell me thier ......... wil go anywhere! Then anywhere must be pretty easy to get to?

You know my brother-in-law?? :D He has more stories than I can count. I like this one. He has been in a hunt club for years, killing many, many deer and other things according to him. I had only met one other member of this club before going there several years ago. There were about 10 guys there when we walked in and I didn't know any of them. He walked out to the truck. One of the guys says 'I got a question for ya?' I say 'yeah.' He says, 'how do you put up with his shit?' I almost lost it!!
OMFG my room mate has to be the biggest "wheeler" i know. he has a 88 1/2 shortbed chevy with a 11:1 350 3" body lift and 33x12.50 goodyear MTs WITH a factory Detroit Locker. the thing runs like shit cause it has to have premium gas plus octane booster to prevent it from pinging and says he can go any where i can go. in his eyes IFS is king and if its not a chevy its a POS. BTW his "factory" detroit locker is really a limited slip "posi". Also who else hates the term Posi to describe a limited slip and then you tell the person that and they say no you are wrong. I HATE THAT!!!!!!
obex26 07-25-2002, 06:22 PM well, I can say I remeber back when i was like oh 8 yrs old and well to me my dads toyota looked like a monster truck, and well, he never told me any stories when i was that age but to this day i still cannot figure out how in the hell he managed to drive his truck through the creek when it was flooded and the water was up to the window from the current and it never stalled out. we would always be able to cross it to get to the house. and no there was no snorkel, only 3" lift and 31's maybe thats why i like toyotas'
snacksnack 07-25-2002, 08:23 PM aw i think you all are just mad cause i can out wheel ya:flipoff2:
some good stories here thou
Paul Gagnon 07-25-2002, 09:37 PM Oh yeah?! I get stuck on speed bumps at the mall!!!

'Yup. I think that EVERY time a listen to a J#@per talk about his frickin heap.
:flipoff2:
TTURokToy 07-25-2002, 10:54 PM The best is, "How much lift do you have and how much did it cost?"
I just tell em its 15" and all from blocks that were custom made and it cost me about $5000.
Also, since i drive a toy with a jeep grille on it, they usually ask me about it. I just tell em it use to be a jeep, but i have modified so much the only jeep part left is the grille. That sure confuses em.
Big Rich 07-26-2002, 06:12 AM Ok here's a storey for ya......I do Drive a real Jeep, 53m-38a it sits on 31's has only limited slip rear (POSI?) and open front, now heres the storey part, it does go thru some shit, and it can go just about anywhere. Ask some of the guys I wheel with........:D :D :D
Rich
We are building 2 rigs, one for the kid and one for myself, when do his will be for competition(a starter rig) and mine will be for hammer'n

Jester_YJ 07-26-2002, 06:18 AM My favorite is when they hear the tires barking around the corners, and they ask why and you tell them you have a spool in it. They ask what is that.
I just say, if you have to ask you wouldn't understand!!
