: Seat belt mounts. Will these cause me to die?
ZJSAMPLE 06-11-2008, 11:33 AM These are rear shoulder mounts on the back bar of the roll cage, 1.75" .120 wall HREW. I am a newb welder.

JeepsRcool 06-11-2008, 01:29 PM lets see a pic with the seats in. so we can see how the brackets line up with the seats and belt.
Kyron 06-11-2008, 01:41 PM Looks good enough, but lets see the rest :)
ZJSAMPLE 06-11-2008, 02:07 PM Just a '79 CJ5 I recently acquired. I added the rear half of the cage and rewelded a lot of the front cage. I don't have the rear seat in right now.

BeefCakeScout 06-11-2008, 05:49 PM when your newb welds fail and you die....can i get that jeep?:flipoff2:
Looks very decent. But beware, someone WILL tell you
needs more triangulation!!!
dopeassjackson 06-11-2008, 06:39 PM i hope your keeping the color on that jeep? if you make some bushings to hold your tabs out and your bolt for the belt in the middle they would be alot stronger with not to much more work.

Thanks for that GREAT idea! I will use it. I am keeping the color, for now...
mudbug660 06-12-2008, 08:05 AM those colors are gay-tastic :flipoff2:
BigDusty 06-12-2008, 10:08 AM I like the big inflatable dog in the second picture of your first post, i have waiting to go in my rig too :D
The welds look pretty damn good, i wouldnt be afraid to die because of them, although i dont know what kinda driver you are

What color dog is yours, mine also hooks to the garden hose.

Haha i dont actaully have a dog like that (though i might get one as a life saving device if i flood my rig ). The only dogs ive got are 2 labs (they are real) and they eat the garden hose so its close :D/

BeefCakeScout 06-13-2008, 10:56 AM well, since nobody said it and i mentioned it, More triangulation would be beneficial. strong welds don't mean shite if the tubes will bend.SEARCH cage construction and get some idea's

I see some triangles. :) I think it should be fine for mild wheeling.

what's gona keep the cage from folding left to right?
blackrider 06-13-2008, 02:09 PM on simple flops ,it won't bend.................are there plates on the under side of the cage plates?
welds look good
the second photo is very surreal.............

Yes, they are plated underneath. I don't plan on taking my kids on exteme trails, so if we do flop it will be mild. :D

comforting!

Glad you won't lose any sleep over it. :flipoff2:

not that i give a rats ass, but the rules for this section pertain to your flame post. he posted in newb, not hardcore. and he was asking about a safety concern, which is applauded by me so flame someone who's bragging about how cool their gay rig is. and btw, ZJSAMPLE, your cage and tabs look fine for the type of wheeling you described. if you do decide to step it up a notch on the trails, add some tube. befriend a local "weekend" fabricator to get some tips.
blackrider 06-13-2008, 10:50 PM you should add some grab bars for the kiddies to hang on to,and make them use them
BeefCakeScout 06-13-2008, 11:17 PM what's gona keep the cage from folding left to right?
kinda what i was getting at. but if you stay easy, should be just fine.
ZJSAMPLE 06-14-2008, 04:40 PM what's gona keep the cage from folding left to right?
What would you suggest?
blackrider 06-14-2008, 05:54 PM in a perfect world,an x behind the front seats, but like mine the seats are in the way. and a horizontal bar parallel to the body at the fold down windshield just above the steering column [it doesn't help with triangulation, but it cuts the main support of the cage in half...........
If ya could squeeze in an x behind the front seats off the B-pillar you'd be good to go.
What would you suggest?
gtrguy731 06-16-2008, 06:36 PM Where did you tie the cage into? Racing seats with five-point harnesses and grab handles would also be reassuring, but likely unnecessary if you plan on doing "only mild" wheelin'. Happy trails :)
Greg_Volkman 06-16-2008, 11:09 PM A primary concern should be that your passengers' heads will contact that bar in a rollover in a forceful way (the side bar).
That bar needs to be further from the seat. It looks way too close to where their heads will be. I personally knew a guy that was killed in a rollover when his head contacted the cage because of a bar he had welded in across the top.
I also think that it is much safer to have the harness points behind your body (i.e, move the seat forward). They look like they are to the side of the body.

I think you may be right. I will move the seat forward a bit. That will move it away from heads and make the belt mount in a better position. I also plan to use the heaviest cage padding I can find. Thanks.
ZJSAMPLE 06-21-2008, 12:04 PM Is this mounting diagram correct/safe?
