I think it's in the bore and the stroke. Not for sure though. The 1298 was in fuel injected samurai's 4cyl. geo metros, and suzuki swifts, I also think but can't remember the name of the rebadged suzuki swaift that chevy put out......The 1324 was in the carbed samurai

a good swap is the 1298 with dohc(swift gti), these used flat top pistons with 4 reliefs for the valves, forged crankshaft that is not hollow like a sammy, forged rods and a stud girdle on the mains. these were factory with over 100 hp (16 valve f.i.), just clearance to fit the oil pu and install the samurai head and oil pan and other sammi stuff. with more weight swingging around in the block these engines have better low speed crawlability(doesn't stall as easy over obstacles)and has a redline of 8,000 rpm.

I've been scheeming up a 1289 16v bottom end/ 2001 esteem top end and injection set up for my sammy, the esteem runs a D.I.S. ignition system , eliminating firewall-to-ditributor clearance problems. rev it to the moon.... on your side if you wish!

Actually I run a 1298cc swift motor that was carbed. I converted it to Fuel Injected from my original 1324cc samurai motor. So i'm thinking that there are both carbed and FI 1298's & 1324's.
If ya were not confused, then now you should be. LOL This is just what i've experienced. I like that 1298 alot though. It works great for me. Swapped right over.
