: Panhard

I built a panhard using 1" schedule 80 pipe and the ends off of my old sway bar. It stopped the wandering on the trails and the pavement.
I put it in paralell to my drag link and it comes really close to stopping the bump steer.

The problem is this--- Imagine a line from one side of the frame to the other side paralell to the front axle. Then draw a diagonal line from the bottom drivers side frame to the top of the spring pad on the passenger side spring. As you push the axle tward the frame, the leingth of the diagonal line (the Pan hard) gets longer and pushes the axle assembly to the passenger side of the vehicle. It does just the opposite when the suspension is fully extended.
Do you guys that have the Kit pan hards have the same problem?
When you install your panhard do you need th ahve the vehicle weight on the tires? Or do you install it while the front suspension is fully extended?

The panhard and the drag link have to work in unison, and work in paralell to each other, otherwise , hehe, steering gets funny when u mess with the front end, doesnt it !?

This is exactly the reason to make the drag link and the panhard the same length.

On the trail the action you mention is not as pronounced though. Articulation tends to move in sweeping arcs rather than straight up and down. On the road is different though. Match the angles and lengths as closely as possible and that's the best you can do.

all of the above and keep them both as close to horizontal as you can..

I just fixed it. All I had to do was to un bolt the top bolt and lower the mount about 3 inches. When I drilled the new holes, I did it with the weight of the rig on the wheels, That way it devides the push- pull equally.. I checked articulation and it is the same as before I installed the track bar.
Bump stear is almost non existant.

I´m "panharded" both fron t and rear, as it´s a coil spring truck. However, the principles are the same as for leafs, specifically to keep the drag link and panhards as paralell to one another and as horizontal as possible.

For the ends, I kept it simple and proven. On the chassis end, I used a poliurethane bushing arrangement. On the axle I went with a standard steering linkage rod end. It was a real PITA to find a tapered reamer to make the mounting hole and an 11/16-18 tap for the bar, but after I got the right tools, it went together with no problem. In my opinion, the use of steering terminals is the best way to go. They´re proven systems as well as being greaseable.
