i would think its like any other bellhousing, it bolts to the tranny and to the block. if not i learn something new everyday :)

Automatics were 700R4s.

Auto's were 700R4's until they became 4L60E's. This should have been about 93'. The manuals were a ZF 5 speed I think. I have the book at home and will look if you really need to know. Anyway, they are a PITA to rebuild!! Also, the bell housing was integral with the tranny.

"Integral" means that the bellhousing is part of the tranny (like an auto.

Any Chevy bellhousing will do. What tranyy are you mating it to? I got a bellhousing for my NV4500 that came off a deisel.

And, I thought the 5-speeds in S-10's w/4.3 was the NV3550, or maybe that wasn't until later.

Yes, the GM book calls the 5 speed a 5LM60, which I think is GM'ees for the NV3550. Either way, this tranny is a PITA to rebuild but seems to be fairly durable, (relative term for most people but probably weak for the Pirate site). Anyway, the integral means that yes, looks like an auto. There is no bolted joint between the tranny and the bell housing. ALL ONE PIECE.

As for bolting up to a 4.3, ANY gas V8 will do. Small or big block it doesn't matter! (gotta love GM for that :) )
