My trailer currently has the shackles in tension at the equalizer bar, Will it alter is handling drastically, if I do a shackle flip?

To lift the trailer, you want to do a spring over. Leave the trailer suspension alone. When a dual axle set-up articulates, the spring hanger straps can flip, and throw the suspension out of whack.

It's actually not that bad, and can easily be done in an afternoon. There are kits available to make it alot easier. Probably $100 in parts.
