Nice work! When did you guys finally make it to the cabin?

We broke the long side joint and snapped off the splines. We were about 3/4 of the way up caddy when it happened. We broke at 3:30 and didn't get going again until 10:15! We went out in 3wd because we couldn't get the stub out of the carrier. We hit the cabin at 1:15am!

Well considering the trouble we had Friday, and Sunday I guess we are lucky we went out Loon via Wentworth. Sorry we weren't there to lend a hand. Did the axle let go and take the joint out or vice versa? Did the lunch box survive?

The Gearless locker survived to wheel another day. I don't know which let go first. In fact it all happened in about half a second....climbing.....sliding left.....bounce up...down...and :nuke: . I shut it down immediately after I heard the :nuke: . We spent hours trying to extract the splines from the carrier. We ended up plugging the axle housing with a bunch of rags, refilled it, and continued in 3wd. Sure was nice to use the winch :D

I heard a rumor of heavy use of the skinny before said incident. Any truth to this :flipoff2:

Moderate perhaps...........part pilot error/ part shitty parts. I wish I had taken the line to the far right. Next time......
It's time to step up to better u-joints, but I'm sticking with stock axle replacement for now. New Warn or Dutchman alloy axles are'nt in the budget.........yet! Does anyone know how much those new OX joints are? Any good? Some good Spicers would be better than what was in there.

Call my buddy Jay at West Coast Diffs and get some 760's to replace them...Basically the same as a 297...meaning, the joint will let go before the axle typically, but they are cheaper. Also, make sure you mention my name and He should be able to hook you up a little on the price.. His number is 916.635.0950 x114

According to someone who used to work in the industry (Not Jay), 297's used to be pretty strong..then they changed the design, but not the p/n. Well, everyone started breaking the new 297's so they came out with the 760's which are actually the old 297 design. I dunno if it's true or not, but the 760's look like the have a larger cross. All of them have half clips..but I tack-weld the caps on anyways to keep them from walking out. I don't know crap about the ox joint but if they are even remotely expensive, buy the CTM's..at least we know the reputation of these...

Oh-yeah..price: I dunno..I get a better discount than you:flipoff2: & I have a 60 now..the 44 parts are forgotten
