zukesofhazzard 06-17-2008, 10:24 PM My boss's kid took his dads zuke to pismo a while back in perfect working order and brings it back looking like this,

He swore that he didnt jump it or drive the fawk out of it. His explanation was that he was driving down the beach and ran crossways over somone elses ruts! from there it went to he bound it to tightly to the trailer! then it goes to " I only jumped it a little". Anyways, This is what he did today to the replacement axle to prevent this type of thing from happening again,

I know, Im an A hole for makin fun but I figure you guys would benefit from the hardcore tech! :flipoff2:
nikita 06-18-2008, 12:10 AM i think you should do something about it:

zukesofhazzard 06-18-2008, 12:36 AM That would probably be ok IF it wasnt spring under ( bumpstop interferance) and I can guarantee that the kid will do it again! this is the second time this has happened! the first time it was with another zuke that was also a stocker. It hit so hard that it ripped one of the front body mounts out. Ive seen the kid drive these things and it is to say the least, its scary! Myself and several other zuke guys around here refuse to wheel with the kid because he is going to get himself or somone else hurt or worse and it takes the fun out of wheeling. I do oversee his projects and point out safety concerns but beyond that hes on his own.
Alphasig112 06-18-2008, 05:56 AM Did he hit a tree or jump it off of something or what.
gi_zuk 06-18-2008, 06:11 AM I can't believe the front spring didn't bend! I can't imagine what he did to cause that damage. All I can think is that he got some major air and then had a hard landing on the passenger side front axle. I've been messing around with Samurais for nearly 20 years and I've never seen anything like that. Usually the spring kinks at the rear or the long side of the housing bends.
I agree about the kid after seeing that damage. I wouldn't be suprised if he killed himself or someone else when wheeling. Seen it before.

Sounds like the best upgrade to your Boss's Zuk would be a rollcage the way his loser son drives it. Then again........
catzuk 06-18-2008, 07:45 AM Wow. Not many bend the short side of the axle. Nice job on that one! Edit: After looking some more at the pics, you can clearly see where it is bent outside of where the bumpstop hits. He must have had some major air to land and bend it there. Ask him for the video. Then say, "Bullshit, I know you have video or a pic of it"! with cameras on every phone, someone has a pic of that one!!!!
The problem is that the way that brace is welded on, it will do absolutely nothing to help with the bending issue. Like in the drawing above, it needs sides fully welded to the top piece to stiffen it up and to make it a true truss. Call lowrangeoffroad and order a truss form them for the long side while your welding to that housing.
Just have him watch how much hes welding on it, they are thin tube housings and will bend if welded on too much. Then your new housing will be pretty, but Junk!!!
At least he is fixing what he broke. Should have just admitted it from the start. Honesty pays off in the long run, especially after the stupid behavior has been done!
LittleBlackSambo 06-18-2008, 11:23 AM kid might choke on the silver spoon in his mouth running crossways over the ruts... or whatever. easy to fix: hey kid, i found you a summe job digging up broken sewer lines. yeah, i know you don't speak spanish, but you'll build character. at the end of the summer, you can have the samurai after payments of $100 a week. problem solved.
TruckTrader 06-18-2008, 02:58 PM As pointed out, that so called "gusset" won't do much to prevent the axle from bending. Steel bends rather easily at the end of a lever like that unless it's boxed in.
On a side note, I've met that kid and his father too. The dad is a nice enough guy but the son is a real spoiled brat near as I can tell. I've heard other stories about this wanker through my buddy over the years and it always involves him wrecking stuff and daddy bailing him out. It's really the father's fault for continuing to support his son after he trashes his quads and vehicles time and time again. The son has learned nothing about personal responsibility or the appreciation of a dollar. I predict more of the same behavior in the future.
blackrider 06-18-2008, 03:06 PM hope the video comes out soon...............
zzukizilla 06-18-2008, 04:11 PM I did that once to my Zuk when I first got it. I jumped a cattle pond I was told I was about ten feet in the air and flew about tweenty feet. Alls I know is it was a ruff landing. After that no more air time for all four wheels.

You said it! The kid still never finished fixing the last fawk up with the other samurai! Myself, Id just assume he didnt get them fixed.
2slo4u 06-18-2008, 05:42 PM I can't believe the r/p clear the dent in the front of the housing.
