Binder 06-22-2008, 07:15 PM Just TRS (The Right Stuff) the thing on with no gasket. Also make sure it's the pan that is leaking. Shifter seal leaks, cooling line leaks, adapter leaks will all drip down and off of the pan.
james west 06-22-2008, 07:56 PM good looking out....all the shit is stock...could be anything
Ben Segrest 06-22-2008, 08:10 PM I've got one of these (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MOR%2D42080&N=700+4294925134+4294839071+4294922122+4294905607+ 115&autoview=sku) sitting in the spare room. Might put in on sometime this week. I've always sucked at sheetmetal engine/tranny covers. The one I got is deep sump and has 2 drain plugs and is a welded design. I liked it a little better than the others I looked at for 2 reasons. One the drain plugs are out the back, not the bottom, so a little more protected. Two, I like welded over cast. Seems more likely to deform vs. crack. YMMV. And if it works, heres the link to the full list of summit's 727 pans. Ben Segrest 06-24-2008, 05:37 PM Welcome
Blind Driver 06-24-2008, 06:12 PM "The Right Stuff" will seal anything ;)
Bill usn-1 06-25-2008, 12:38 PM My vote is on the shift shaft seal(2 of them) and not the pan.
But if you run the deep pan then also get the filter extension to lower it down.
Make it work much better when laying it on it's side or it's nose.
james west 06-25-2008, 05:52 PM really i need a full "rebuild"...i have an art carr valve body and torque converter i've been sitting on for about 5 years that i've been waiting to PAY SOMEONE to install:shaking:............i guess its about time to get my shit together:idea:
Binder 06-25-2008, 07:26 PM There is not much to installing the valve body. Hardest part is R&R-ing the pan....

the included instructions talk about what springs and bands to use...its a manual reverse pattern valve body with compression braking....the tranny has about 125K on it....i just want it throughly gone through
lildave 06-28-2008, 06:54 PM if your really worried about the pan gasket, you can get a reusable one off a 618tf there the same, good luck.:smokin:
james west 09-17-2008, 07:52 AM finally getting around to doing this...where would i source a "filter extension?"...and should i try the dealer on the pan, or is there a cheaper solution?
jdjanda 09-17-2008, 08:18 AM The extra capacity pan from summit came with an extension. Very important for proper function when the Scout is on the side, standing up, or nose in a hole.

If you are trying to save a buck, save a few and go with the steel pan.

Steel Chrysler Preformance Pan (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DCC%2D3690730AB&N=700+115&autoview=sku)
Then used what you saved and get the resable pan gasket, also Chrysler Preformance and I believe a dealer item.

about the same price...$15 difference....good call. i prefer the steel, un-modified look.

Ben Segrest 09-17-2008, 12:12 PM There's another one that's cheaper in the list I linked to in my previous post. Actually there are 2, but one doesn't come with spacer (I don't know if a spacer will work with it).
$81.95

$69.95

No the cheap stamped one.
Diesel Smoke 09-18-2008, 03:56 PM No the cheap stamped one.
The cheap stamped one is exactly that......cheap!! Get a pan with the billet spacer and o-ring seal. Leaking fluid around the spacer is really more trouble then it's worth.

(not to be a smartass, but...) what difference does it make if the spacer is billet or not?...are you refering to an o-ring that goes in the spacer?...if so, how would you even know if it was leaking?...performance?
i guess i'm still asking (from the original post) what are your actual opinions, experiences, and suggestions, not just which is the cheapest...?

I have heard negative things about them, but never used one, as I have always bought the pan with the billet spacer, honestly out of blind luck. The O-ring goes between the pickup and the valve body. The extended pickup extends your filter down into the pan. Because you have an extended pan you have to extend the filter as well, if not when low on fluid or in an off camber situation you would suck air. With the sheet metal spacer I have heard it leaks and can pull air in where it meets the valve body. Like I said, I don't have any person experience with it, just warned against using it from others with extended pans, who had and experience problems.
james west 09-22-2008, 03:59 PM i went ahead and order the $69 dollar one from summit. we'll be installing the valve body and torque converter too. i'll update on the install/performance in a couple weeks. thanks for the input.:smokin:
