This guy wants $30 for housing/diff cover/tubes/Cs, no internals, all stripped and painted, looks new.

But I was reading your Mr.N's info on HP44's:

http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/Dana44.htm
http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/Dana44_3.htm#Full%20Size%20Bronco

What should I look for that might rule this out as a good swap candidate for my TJ?

and while we're at it, I cannot seem to find out what makes a front axle a "kingpin" or "flat top". It's the knuckle that dictates this, right? SInce this doesn't have knuckles, then I can come up with a good solution for high steer and such later when I get knuckles right?

IIRC, the diffference is "kingpin" or "ball joint" and is the connection method for attaching the axle "c" to the knuckle. A d44 will be the ball joint style.

Flat top refers to a type of knuckle that is easy to modify for a high-steer set-up.

nice, that makes more sense to me now. And I think I made sense of Mr. N's info page now and have decided that due to the cast in spring perches, I wouldn't be able to use that dana 44 for a TJ. :homer:

thanks for the help

With about $40 worth of griding wheels you could........I wish I could find a housing for $30.
