I've never seen this, maybe a FF 60 but most likely a ff14. The semifloats didnt come along until chevy started the light duty/heavy duty 3/4 ton crap. Also all semifloats I've seen are 6 lug

Well if you compair a 10 front to a D44 front they are the same as strength goes. DANA built both. All parts from Knuckle out are interchangable.
If you leave them open then they will do ok up till 35's over that your going to break stuff. You lock it.... all bets are off even on 33's.
If your planning on locking, big tires and hard wheeling, save your money and buy a 60.

GM quit with the 60's in the back when the 14 came out (early 70's). 14 full floater is a little stronger than a 60. More in the range of a 70 but the 60 will have better ground clearence.
The SF 14 was late 80's, it came in both 6 and 8 lug. The 6's usualy came in towing package 1/2 ton Burbs and Long beds. The 8's came in 3/4 tons. I would say maybe D60 strength but still a C clip axle and all the same issues any C clip axle has.
That 79 will have the good FF14 but it will track 3 inches more narrow than the front. All GM's do except axles under the vans. The vans are same width as the GM 10,D44 and D60 fronts. Problem is finding one.
If your throwing this 3/4 ton stuff under a FJ or a jeep they will hold ok up but if it's going under something heavy get a 60 front.

I have a 1981 GMC4 ton with a 9.50 simi float 14 bolt 8 lug, 79 chevy with a 10.50 full float 14-bolt. so you probley have a full float in the 79 2500 and simi floats where interduced in the early 80's
