: Spark plug boots melting

Just wanted to find out if anyone else has experienced this. I'm running a 350 TBI with rams horn manifolds. Using Accell's extreme h-temp wires (supposed to take 700 degrees). I guess thats the wires not the boots. Anyone use any kind of wire wraps or any other tricks out there?

How are you routing your wires? I'm finishing my TBI, and am planning on using the NAPA premium (lifetime guarantee) plug wires on it. I am routing the wires down the rear of the engine and under the manifolds like the old Vettes. I just installed the crossover pipe connecting the two rams horns. Have to finish my wiring to the Ign, and install the fuel plumbing. I have seen those tan spark plug boot sleeves look like they are made out of fibreglass. Look like they would hold back the heat.

Do you have any pix? If so, send to me by email and I can post.

The wires are fine. They are routed out and over the valve covers. It's just one boot on each side that is toast. The one that is just to the rear of the rams horn exhaust flange. I'll take some pics to show you what I have. Thanks

Not sure if you could but have ramhorns and haven't melted anything but are you using center dump flat or angled? With the turndown facing back it shouldn't be a problem......

I am aware of two different types of heat-shielding boots that work with the rams horn manifolds. The kind I use on my FJ40 are shown below:

Summit also has some made of heat insulating fabric. I have a set of these that I will sell real cheap.

No, that is not my engine. I didn't happen to have a pic showing the boots that I use. That pic was shamelessly stolen from BTB's web site.It is a Vortec, and why anyone would paint it blue is beyond me. The whole drivetrain is in fact blue in this project.

ya now that i look at it....

i didnt realize the goofy bracket was for the ac, and i see the centerbolt valve covers, so it is newer.... please tell me that manifold is polished, not chrome plated!!!! BLING BLING :D :D

Thanks Jack. I really like the ones in the BTB pic. Any idea where to find them? My rams horn dump straigt down just like those. I guess I can search the boneyards around here on my next trip around.

screw the boneyards...im almost positive no vehicle ever came with boots like that. either buy the boots that jack has or open your summit or jegs catalog and look there....

Yea, your right. That why I just made some today in my the welding course I'm taking. Just dug through the scrap pile, found what I needed and went to town. Got em all done, just need to finish them up by putting some little tabs on em to mount them to the ramshorn manifolds. Thanks again Jack for the pic.:)
