: Fordyce Trail Closing???
outlawMANN 06-25-2008, 03:05 PM I heard a rumor today that some of the rangers were saying that this weekend (June 28-29) Will be the last weekend for wheeling on the trail this summer. Please someone tell me this is not true. I cant make it there this weekend and last year I didnt go becuase of the closure. Does anyone know the truth or has anybody else heard of this?
Lance 06-25-2008, 03:31 PM I certainly wouldn't doubt it.
42s on u 06-25-2008, 03:47 PM I haven't heard anything of the sort.....Yet. but theres no doubt it will be closing soon.
BIGJOEDUCKSLAYER 06-25-2008, 03:47 PM Nothing official yet
outlawMANN 06-25-2008, 03:54 PM well I hope something is posted about it I might have to change my plans of moving to wheelin if it is true.
SIKJEEP 06-25-2008, 04:07 PM I Believe It With All The Fires Going On.
Big Rich 06-25-2008, 07:08 PM This would suck, I was hoping to run it the week after our Donner event :(
Wilson 06-25-2008, 08:36 PM I was told several weeks ago by a TNF ranger that Fordyce would not be closed as it was last year.
Kurtuleas 06-25-2008, 08:44 PM This rumor as been flying around and I have heard it elsewhere..
My guess is the fires are fueling the rumor, especially after last year.
The best bet is to wait for Brett to post up before everyone gets thier panties in an uproar.
He will know the REAL DEAL
outlawMANN 06-25-2008, 10:25 PM Well "Satisfactory". that is good to hear. But this still makes me wanna plan a trip up there befor it really does close!

Be careful Kurt. There is only one "t" in Bret's name.(sometimes he gets a little pissy about it) :flipoff2::grinpimp::flipoff2:

Sorry BRET! LOL!
sierravalley 06-26-2008, 01:10 AM I'll try and get a hold of my buddy and see if he knows anything. He is the forest service patrol for the Meadow Lake side.

I am not pissy.:flipoff2:
I'll try and find out if anything is going on in regards to planning any closures. I have already been told there is nothing in the works but things change.
I changed jobs within my company and no longer sit in front of a computer all day so things might be a little tougher for me now in regards to this kind of stuff but I will try and keep up. I am also on swing shift for a couple of months so that's another little problem.
Tinman 06-26-2008, 11:19 AM E-mail in to Tom Quinn, the Tahoe Forest Supervisor. Hopefully he can give us some insight into any plans and the process for these kinds of decisions.
Anybody planning on wheeling Fordyce this weekend?
FordFascist 06-26-2008, 12:57 PM A couple of guys and I were planning a run. I got a phone call from another one of our buddies about this very same topic. Seeing that we're leaving tomorrow, this might be important information.
RCKRATZ 06-26-2008, 01:16 PM Before everyone goes all chicken little...lets just wait and see what Quinn has to say. Remember that he is not the same guy who issued the closure last year and this is his first summer in the Tahoe NF as the forest supervisor.

IV WHLN 06-26-2008, 01:38 PM Although the TNF site may not be the most up to date here it is:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe/
"Most campgrounds, picnic areas, roads and trails are open, except for a few in the high country still blocked by snowdrifts. Find your perfect spot in the woods with our recreation report. "
No mention of Fordyce trail or OHV use anywhere.
BIGJOEDUCKSLAYER 06-26-2008, 01:42 PM Anybody planning on wheeling Fordyce this weekend?
Yes, we have 5rigs going early sat. morning and returning sunday afternoon.
2 sami buggy's, 2 toy's, and 1 jeep
timo992001 06-26-2008, 01:50 PM Anybody planning on wheeling Fordyce this weekend?
Yup, 2 toys and 2 jeeps.
I would like to hook up with somebody Friday Morning, or Sat. Morning. Mocha Mike was putting a run together, but had to back out because of work, others are having the same issues "working" or thier junk is not ready.
Hard to miss me, Red Scout with with a white top.
mucknet 06-26-2008, 05:37 PM I was up at the resevoir yesterday, and I asked the ranger (Dave? I think?) about this, because I've heard the same rumor a bunch of times. He said that unless its an emergency closure, they'd know about it at least a couple weeks ahead of time.
I have a trip planned for two weeks, and I expect it to be open :D
Tinman 06-27-2008, 01:31 AM No response yet. I'll give Supervisor Quinn a call tomorrow.
BRENTWADE 06-27-2008, 01:39 AM Anybody planning on wheeling Fordyce this weekend?

JDunn 06-27-2008, 01:27 PM I was talking to my roommate last night and he asked why we weren’t going to Fordyce this weekend. I couldn't give him a good answer so we are headed up tomorrow with about 5 rigs. We'll be going in Cisco for the day and run up to WH3 or Meadow.
Tinman 06-27-2008, 04:12 PM First off everyone start by going to these sites and reading about the current situation. Be informed before posting stuff about rumors. Know what's actually happening in our forests.

Tinman 06-27-2008, 04:22 PM Of course I've said how the FOF is not Friends of the Whole Tahoe Forest but it has kind of fallen to us to get good information out to you.
I just got off the phone with the Tahoe National Forest Supervisor, Tom Quinn. Although I've e-mailed Mr. Quinn a number of times this is the first time I've spoken to him in person. I must say I'm impressed with the time he took to speak with me considering how busy he is right now. He did see my e-mail and has forwarded it on to a number of forest service and fire service people in an attempt to get current information he can pass on to us.
He told me he wants everyone to kow he HAS NOT signed any closure orders and there are no plans to do so as of this time. Nothing has been decided although he says they are all talking about what needs to be done. The problem is they are apparently very busy fighting fires at this time. A number of Tahoe personel are in the Plumas assisting them with fires currently burning. Lightning strikes have caused these fires. I saw on one of the sites I linked they are having trouble even locating some of the fires.
This is a very dry year. Notice the Eldorado will be putting restrictions into effect sooner than ever before.
The bottom line is that nothing has been decided or done yet in deciding or issuing closures or restrictions in the Tahoe as of this time so the best I can tell you all is that I will try and keep on top of this and keep the OHV community informed.
