: Hiding an ARB Instal - Question

I want to run lockers - preferably ARBs.

Got one in a Toy diff & the hose exits half way along the top of the pinnion casing as per the instructions.

Where does the hose exit on the Sammi ?

Can you route it inside the casing to exit it through the diff breather ?

I want to hide it so people dont know I've got it & was thinking about running it up the diff breather hose.

Joe

Over here in the UK I can certainly afford ARBs with the way the Great British Pound is strengthening against the Yanky Dollar - Ha !!!

It sounds doable.... The Sami ARB also mounts the bulkhead fitting on the cast 3rd member or 'pig'. You still have to run some type of coupler for the steel line coming off the ARB collar to the blue line. If you fabbed a bracket that attached the bulkhead fitting (or coupler) inside the housing. Then route the blue line thru the breather (assuming there is clearence, you'd probably have to drill out the vent hole), then connect it as you assembled the pig to housing.... It would be a real PITA, but is sounds possible...

Hey I like that idea... It seems like over here, not showing everyone what you got is a good way to keep your vehicle in your own personal possetion (SP)... That and I personally really dig on "sleeper" rigs... I used to wheel with a buddy that had a stock Toyota, with 31" Mud tires and Lockers F&R... I don't see why you couldn't fab out some sort of something to make that work out for you...

On a dana axle what you propose might be doable. Though you would want to have a separate vent. A vent is needed or you'll potentially blow out oil seals on your axle or the air lines for the locker.

On a Samurai axle, this is a MAJOR PITA! The carrier stays with the 3rd member, not the housing. You'd have to somehow rig up a long flexible air line that would allow service and removal of the 3rd member. This line would also have to be routed such that it doesn't get tangled in the spinning diff parts. Very tough since it will all be inside the axle and hidden once you shove the 3rd member in.

Perhaps just cover the air locker line with a rubber oil or fuel hose so it appear like an elevated breather line. I would imagine that anyone eyeballing your rig close enough to see all of this and who knows what an air locker is (since you're wanting to hide it) is probably going to figure things out one way or the other.

Or, just put a sticker on that says something like "welded gears kick ass" ;)

My guess is that he wants to cheat in some event that doesn´t allow lockers...:p :flipoff2: :D

A little hard to hide the very distinctive sound of an ARB engaging.

ok ill go....

WHY ?

-the first time you engage the soliniod everyone will know
-the first time your line leaks everyone will know
-when someone realize that all your tires are spinning they might figure it out...
-will all the effort be worth it when everyone says "psst... hey thats that guy with the hidden ARB lines" ?

Being a sleeper is only good if your in a non-descript rig and people forget who you are.

Am I missing somthing?

Hey bill, if my memory serves me right, it is a legality issue there, not some sneaky thing a Brazilian Yank would try and do! :flipoff2: :D

If you're running a 88.5+ you could always route it over to the brakeline so it just appears that you have 2 brakelines like the 86-88.

new twist on mounting arb lines.

On my dana 44 I ground a grove out of the back side of the pumkin just large enough so the copper air line would fit tight in the grove. Next I siliconed around the the copper line and then placed the rear cover back on. this makes it easy when you have to remove the carrier you dont have to cut the copper line ,instead just slip it out of the grove with it intacted to the carrier. this should work on a zuk third member also.

hook up the ARB exhaust to your intake or filter....no noise...although to me, its all about that noise

pshhhh pssshttt pshhhhh

plus i think hiding it is a silly idea, cover it in black plastic (or use a thicker plastic hose...like i did..... and black, it blends in under there......nobody cares anyways.....

The blue line fits inside of the cheap, yellow air compressor coil hose.

-Although people will think it's an ARB anyways, at least everyone thought my yellow coil breather hose was an arb.... it is now though.
