Found an 02 2500hd crew cab, 4wd with 150k on it. The injectors were replaced at 104k and a water pump not long after that. Truck is in good shape, asking 13500 for it. I am concerned about the injector problems with the 02 models. What do yall think? Buy it or stay away from it?
Your 7/200k warranty will be up shortly.... Thats what steered me away from the early duramax... I found a post on a forum about injector replacement. Who had it done and at how many miles, there were some on their fourth set...
I called the local Chevy dealer to run the vin on an 01 to see if the injectors had been replaced, the tech told me if I wasnt getting a smoking deal on it, to pass on the truck...
Since the woman only wanted a auto, and I couldnt afford an 04+ duramax, we went with gas....

Once the injectors are replaced they're good to go. Some people got screwed because the dealer only replaced the leaky ones so they had to make a couple trips to the dealer.
My '02 has been flawless (once the injectors got done) and I drive it hard. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one :smokin:
Edit - Just to be clear, once the injectors are done they don't go again. GM changed the design and the new version of the injectors don't have a problem.

yep, same here. mine is a 2002 LB7. I bought it with 98K on it. the injectors were replaced at 73K. I now have 126K on it with zero problems. I tow with it and run it pretty hard when not towing (it's pushing about 600hp)
great motor and I'm happy so far.

I like mine alot, I have had it in the shop twice for the injectors, but thats cause the dumb asses didnt replace all 8. I have had 60k trouble free miles on it since.
The LB7's get the best milage IMO, currently unloaded highway I am getting 22.5 driving it nicely, driving hard in town I can get down to 17. I say go for it.

I have an '02 D-max, crewcab, shortbed, 4x4.
Injector replacement at 66k. I'm at 125k now.
I bought the truck with 8 miles on it brand spanking new from dealer. I've had two problems I've had is I had a wheelbearing go bad in the 1st 5k miles. But the other is much more important. Pumprub on the transfer case. If you're getting a 4x4, and it hasn't had the transfer out of it to fix the problem you'll soon have it. Or jump in from of it for $400 to fix before it eats through the case. I got my fix from Merchant Auto in Michigan.
A metal clip that hold the pump in the bottom of the transfer wears until it breaks from vibration, then those same vibrations allow that clip to wear away at the magnesium case until you have a pin hole and all your trans fluid runs out and you burn it up.
I'd buy another one if I didnt have this one. And you get so much better mileage from the earlier D-maxs with less emissions equipement than the new ones. I get 19-20 everyday, vs. '07-08s getting 14.
