Read these two articles:
http://www.bc4x4.com/pv/tj/fa/fa.cfm
http://www.bc4x4.com/pv/tj/ra/ra.cfm
They detail the install of a D44 and a Ford 9" using Rubicon Express HD brackets and full size axles. If you cut off your old brackets and re-use them for the new axles it may be cheaper. Although you will have just de-valued your old axles to other TJ'ers, thereby lowering their re-sale value.

Late model Grand Wagoneer dana 44's should be promising for a TJ. They are not as wide as full size axles, and the front is a passenger side drop. I'll be dropping them into my YJ in the next few weeks.

explain to me how a passenger drop dana 44 would be easy and cheap to put in a tj??
Because that means you would have to swap out your 231 with either an atlas or a dana 300.. granted you can get the 300 for a few bills. and the it will bolt to the back of a ax15, but if its the ax5 your screwed unless you want to run atlas. there is absolutly nothing cheap about putting a passenger drop front axle in a tj.. if you are keeping the 231

I have already put 44's under my yjHis is coil , out of a grand waggoneer, but could you use his old coil perches from his 30 ans 35 axles , and the brackets for the arms ? Would this be wise to do? His is coil, and we were looking at . why not just use the same type of axle , and his old pearches and arm mounts

Make sure to get a mid to late 80's model waggy front 44 since it won't have the vacuum disconnect on it. You could reuse the old brackets, but like it was said before the resale value of the old axles would go down quite a bit. Plus you would be using weaker brackets as opposed to RE's beefier brackets. Good luck

I've done a couple like that for tj's. You can reuse your brackets, the housing aren't worth as much as the RE bracket kit. The only part you'll have to fab is a "bridge" over the cast housing to mount your upper control arm on. I bent it out of 1/4" welded it at either end then drilled and tapped a hole in the top of the housing to give it some more strength. The other thing that needs attention is the housing on the drivers side. It has a cast in leaf spring perch that sets right where the control arm mount has to go. I ground that square part off to make it round then welded the mount right to it.
It takes some fab work, but can be done.
